Solid move. I like it. How’s that for analysis? What caught my attention about this mock, and the reason I’m writing this, isn’t the first pick. It’s the second. 34 picks later, the Bucs are back on the clock for the second round. If CBS is correct - they’re not - then picks one through six on day two will look like this:33 - Arizona Cardinals - DT, Dexter Lawrence (Clemson)Nice defensive tackle, Bucs already got one of those.34 - Indianapolis Colts - WR, Kelvin Harmon (NC State)Makes the Devin Funchess signing look pointless.35 - Oakland Raiders - RB, Josh Jacobs (Alabama)So Gruden to copy Tampa and take an Alabama player. 36 - San Francisco 49ers - WR, A.J. Brown (Ole Miss)Something something Kwon Alexander something....37 - New York Giants - QB, Daniel Jones (Duke)Such a Giants 2019 off-season pick to make.38 - Jacksonville Jaguars - TE, Irv Smith, Jr. (Alabama)Nice Alabama tight end, Bucs already got one of those. This is good news for Bucs fans as nobody Tampa Bay is likely targeting comes off the board before they get their first crack at the second-round. Josh Jacobs might be a player some fans of the franchise covet, but if the team is truly committed to giving Ronald Jones a chance to prove his value as a 2018 second-round pick, then this is too early to draft a running back.At pick 39 then, Licht is back on the clock and has his choice of guys like Amani Oruwariye (Penn State), Garrett Bradbury (NC State), Mack Wilson (Alabama) and the guy they actually pick....39 - Tampa Bay Buccaneers - S Chris Conte Jersey , Chauncey Gardner-Johnson (Florida)Jason Getz-USA TODAY SportsThe Buccaneers have picked up some defensive help this off-season, and it came mostly in the form of solid tacklers. While Gardner-Johnson is credited in the mock as having answered questions about his tackling ability, it’s the pass coverage which connects the team and player. He would be the second Florida defensive back drafted by the Bucs in four years, joining 2016 first-round pick, Vernon Hargreaves III.In the 2018 off-season, safety signings were scarce. In this one, thus far, they’ve been common and lucrative. While the Bucs didn’t land any ‘flashy’ ones like Tyrann Mathieu or Landon Collins, adding Gardner-Johnson to the current safety group could really help make them a well-rounded unit with a lot of versatility, something it would appear is highly coveted by Todd Bowles in his defense. So, what do we think Bucs fans? Obviously the selection of Williams isn’t new. And we know there are many differences of opinion about what should happen with the fifth pick. But we have a semi-new wrinkle in this one. A new pick to discuss.Do we like Chauncey Gardner-Johnson at pick 39? Or do we want someone else?Highlights From Training Camp: 7/29/18 Mark another day down for the Bucs’ training camp. Today was a good day. The first, full-padded practice left us with plenty to talk about. From Vita Vea to DeSean Jackson, it seemed like there was news from all corners of One Buc Place. Check out our quick observations from camp here to catch up on some of the top stories. Until then, enjoy some video of today’s top plays.First up is an incredible throw-and-catch between Ryan Fitzpatrick and Cameron Brate during a 7-on-7 drill. Fitzpatrick drops it in beautifully over Brate’s shoulder, and he is able to make an incredible, diving catch. And here is the deep pass from Jameis Winston to Jackson, provided by pewterreport.com:Next is a two-part sequence. William Gholston is flattened by rookie Alex Cappa and defensive line coach Brenton Buckner isn’t pleased at all. Buckner gets in to Gholston’s grill immediately, letting him know the he is pissed about what just happened.Gholston’s flattening:Buckner’s reaction:The Bucs went run-heavy today and the defense won most of the matchups. Here is a quick shot of the defense winning as previously mentioned. They didn’t have success on every play. Rookie Ronald Jones has a nice cutback that allows him to reach the second level of the defense.Winston finds Jacquizz Rodgers, who then finds some running room for a big gain on this play.Vea being carted off the field. Reports are that it’s a calf strain. Expect the Bucs to be cautious from this point on with the rookie. Video courtesy of pewterreport.com:RoJo burns the defense for the second time. The defense got some revenge on this play, forcing a fumble. Sorry, it’s almost impossible to see who fumbled the ball.Once the Bucs moved inside, the air attack was deployed. The offense found a lot of success throwing the ball, but not before Javien Elliot “sacks” Winston on this play.Fitzpatrick didn’t make things better fumbling this snap. What’s a highlight reel without Mike Evans? After M.J. Stewart stole the show Saturday, fellow rookie Jordan Whitehead thought he’d get in on the fun. He picks off Ryan Griffin and this would’ve most likely resulted in a touchdown. Correction, what’s a highlight reel without Evans twice? This video isn’t much fun. This is where backup right tackle Leonard Wester was hurt when his legs were tangled with Brate and some defenders. He was carted off the field. It’s not good news for a Bucs team who is already having to ease in starter Demar Dotson, who is recovering from knee surgery. We will provide an update on the injury as soon as possible. Peyton Barber just knifes through the defense on this play. He looks as quick as ever after shedding weight.Sigh...Evans again. Except this time with stellar concentration. Adam Humphries got tired of Evans stealing the show.As always, Winston is the last one on the field after practice. Here he is coaching up Chris Godwin, I believe. And I leave you with Gerald McCoy dancing. Gotta love this guy.
