AikenThe month of April has been a depressing ride for the Kansas City Royals, who came in tonight losers of ten straight. Suffering through bullpen woes, inconsistency from starters, and the bottom half of the lineup dragging them down offensively, the pieces finally came together on Friday evening. Handing the ball off their No.1 starter in Brad Keller, the Royals turned their utter dejection from Thursday’s loss into an act of motivation. Taking the frustrations out on Indians starter Carlos Carrasco, the first six Kansas City hitters reached. Kicking off the home half of the first was Whit Merrifield, who sneaked a dribbler down the first base line. Mondesi then piggybacked him with a ringing triple into the right-center gap Jose Pirela Jersey , plating the games first run on the night. Strutting to the batters box wearing a yellow armband with the name “Charlie” scribbled around it, Alex Gordon turned an accessory into an unforgettable moment a child battling cancer won’t ever let slip his mind. Exposing an 84 mph off-speed pitch in the right-field seats, Gordon handed Carrasco his third run in just three batters. Slapping the yellow band as he touched home plate, the 35-year-old outfielder paid homage in the best way he possibly could. Down in the order, two of the most highly criticized players in Lucas Duda and Chris Owings delivered the final knockout punches to effectively force the Tribe’s starter to hit the showers early after 鈪?of an inning, allowing a total of six runs on six hits. Padded with some first inning run support, Keller took the lead and continued in stride. Despite his lone mistake in the second inning, giving up a solo shot to the likes of Tyler Naquin and ending the MLB’s longest homerless stretch of 54 innings, Keller held Cleveland to a mere three hits over the course of 6 鈪?innings. Striking out a career-high ten hitters, the Royals starter was relieved by Jake Diekman in the seventh after 118 pitches. The total marked the most by a Kansas City pitcher since James Shields in 2014 per Cody Tapp.Once again charged by the top of its lineup Kevin Kiermaier Jersey , the Royals 1-3 hitters (Merrifield, Mondesi, Gordon) were a combined 8-15 with one home run and four driven in. Now 3-10, Kansas City will look to make it two straight tomorrow night at 6:15 CT. Homer Bailey will toe the slab for the Royals while Jefry Rodriguez makes his season debut for Cleveland. WASHINGTON (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers last made the playoffs seven years ago. With a chance to end that rut, they’ve been aggressive in remaking their roster.Milwaukee brought in three more veterans on Friday, the deadline for traded players to be eligible to postseason play. They snagged left-handed starter Gio Gonzalez from the Washington Nationals, steady outfielder Curtis Granderson from the Toronto Blue Jays and lefty reliever Xavier Cedeno from the Chicago White Sox.Milwaukee was active, too, ahead of the non-waiver trade deadline on July 31, acquiring infielders Mike Moustakas and Jonathan Schoop. The Brewers hold the second NL wild-card spot and trail the first-place Chicago Cubs by four games in the NL Central.Gonzalez and Granderson both have postseason experience. Gonzalez won four NL East titles in a six-year stretch with the Nationals Alex Cobb Jersey , and Granderson has reached the playoffs with four teams in his career — Detroit, the Yankees, the Mets and the Los Angeles Dodgers.Gonzalez changed from a Nationals uniform into a Brewers sweatshirt and cap after Milwaukee beat Washington 4-1 on Friday night for its third straight win. Leaving Washington was emotional for the left-hander, who is nonetheless excited about the opportunity.“I grew up here. I had my family here, my wife and my kids. It’s just sad but I’m happy,” Gonzalez said. “I’m really happy. I’m getting a second chance to redeem myself and I think this is a perfect opportunity with a team like the Brewers. I see there’s a hopefully a brighter future for me (with Milwaukee).”The 32-year-old Gonzalez, who will be a free agent after the season, has a career record of 124-97 with a 3.71 ERA in 308 games (302 starts) with Oakland and Washington. This year, he’s 7-11 with a 4.57 ERA in 27 starts.“The track record’s important, the success he’s had is important and we feel like we’re adding a good pitcher to our staff Wade Boggs Jersey ,” Brewers manager Craig Counsell said.Counsell said it’s possible that Gonzalez would work out of the bullpen.“Look, we’re at the stage where we’re just getting outs and we’re gonna try to get 27 outs a game,” Cousell said. “If there’s a spot to use him in relief, I would consider that as I would for all these guys.”The 37-year-old Granderson is batting .245 with 11 home runs and 35 RBIs in 104 games this season. He has 330 homers in 15 major league seasons and has played in 57 postseason games, batting .227 with nine homers.“You’re surprised because you never know what’s going to happen. You hear all kinds of rumblings and things. There’s no reason to get worked up over anything until something happens,” Granderson said after he had a pinch-hit single in Toronto’s 6-5 win over Miami.“But I’m also excited getting a chance to go to a team that has a chance to get to the playoffs. So I am super excited to join them,” he said.Cedeno was 2-0 with a 2.84 ERA in 33 appearances for Chicago.“We’re just trying to fortify the roster as best we can and give ourselves options and depth for whatever happens in this month,” Counsell said about the Cedeno deal.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Andrew McCutchen moving into Philadelphia’s outfield Tim Tebow Jersey , more talk about a megadeal involving Noah Syndergaard and J.T. Realmuto and veteran pitcher Ivan Nova on the go.The winter meetings picked up a bit Tuesday, but any big deals for the likes of Corey Kluber, Manny Machado and Bryce Harper remained on deck. There were reports the Baltimore Orioles were close to hiring a manager in Chicago Cubs bench coach Brandon Hyde. But the O’s said those stories were premature and they wouldn’t make a decision before leaving Las Vegas.“We don’t have a manager,” newly hired general manager Mike Elias said. The World Series champion Red Sox made a move, too — with their lineup. AL MVP Mookie Betts will shift out of the leadoff spot and bat behind Andrew Benintendi, manager Alex Cora said.“I think we’re going to maximize Mookie in a different spot. Flip-flop them, Beni leading off and Mookie hitting second. Talked to him, it makes sense,” Cora said.“And I know Beni’s OK with it. But if you play 162 games, you’re going to come up 162 at-bats with nobody on,” he said. “And last year, what I wanted from him in the leadoff spot, we accomplished. It’s a different season and we have to make adjustments, and that’s where we’re going to go.”Betts led the majors in batting (.346) and slugging percentage (.640) and was second in on-base average (.438) for the 108-win Red Sox. He also had 84 extra-base hits, including 32 home runs.Speculation continued to swirl about a huge swap that would include the Yankees and Mets. The New York teams don’t usually do business directly, but this trade would enlist a third team — the Miami Marlins and Realmuto, their star catcher.“I’d like to think that we’re very open-minded and aggressive and talk to everybody about what’s available in the marketplace. And so it doesn’t matter really for most part what the team is. I’ll explore every opportunity that might be available Jay Bruce Jersey ,” Yankees GM Brian Cashman said.McCutchen, meanwhile, and the Phillies agreed to a $50 million, three-year contract, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the agreement, which includes a club option for 2022, is subject to a successful physical. The 32-year-old was the NL MVP in 2013, highlighting his long run in Pittsburgh. He split last season with San Francisco and the Yankees, hitting a combined .255 with 20 homers and 65 RBIs.The Phillies have a surplus of outfielders, including Odubel Herrera, Nick Williams, Aaron Altherr and Roman Quinn. Rhys Hoskins is shifting from left field to first base after Carlos Santana was dealt to Seattle.Nova was traded from the Pirates to the Chicago White Sox for minor league pitcher Yordi Rosario and $500,000 in international signing bonus pool allocation. The 31-year-old righty was 9-9 with a 4.19 ERA in 29 starts this season. The White Sox were searching for a starter after prized rookie Michael Kopech had Tommy John surgery in September.“We think he’s going to be able to eat up some innings and pitch effectively for us,” Chicago manager Rick Renteria said. “I think the front office was doing their due diligence in trying to acquire someone of Nova’s status and stature, and all the reports from everybody we’ve spoken to, this kid’s a good pick up for us.” MILWAUKEE (AP) — Winning seven straight games stamped the Milwaukee Brewers‘ ticket to meet the Chicago Cubs and their boisterous fans at Wrigley Field.Triple Crown contender Christian Yelich and the Brewers advanced to an NL Central tiebreaker against the Cubs, putting themselves in position Sunday with an 11-0 romp over the Detroit Tigers. Both already assured playoff spots http://www.metsfanproshop.com/authentic-tim-tebow-jersey , the Brewers (95-67) meet the Cubs on Monday afternoon in a one-game matchup for the division title. The loser will host the NL wild-card game Tuesday vs. the loser of the Colorado-Los Angeles Dodgers tiebreaker in the NL West.“Expecting it to be fairly hostile tomorrow,” Yelich said.“Any time we play the Cubs, it’s a hostile environment, especially in Wrigley Field. It’s going to be a lot of fun. We’re looking forward to it.”The Cubs beat Milwaukee 11-8 in the season series, but Milwaukee won four of the last six games.“We’ve played each other really tough all year,” Yelich said. “So, it’s only fitting we got to do one more.”Chicago beat St. Louis 10-5 on the final scheduled day of the regular season.“It’s going to come down to execution like it has all year,” said Yelich, who is batting .175 with 16 strikeouts, no home runs and five RBIs in 15 games against the Cubs this season.Yelich went 0 for 2 with two walks and scored twice against Detroit, ending his 10-game hitting streak. He is hitting .323 in his first season with Milwaukee, locking up the first batting title in Brewers’ history.Robin Yount, Milwaukee’s two-time AL MVP and Hall of Famer, was on hand to cheer for Yelich. Yount came the closest (.331) to the batting title in 1982 but finished a decimal point behind Kansas City Royals’ Willie Wilson (.332).“That’s pretty cool,” Yount said in the Brewers clubhouse. “I’m pulling for him.”Yelich has 109 RBIs, tied with Colorado’s Nolan Arenado and two behind leader Javier Baez of the Cubs. Yelich’s 36 home runs are tied with Colorado’s Trevor Story and St. Louis’ Matt Carpenter, one behind Arenado. The tiebreakers are considered game No. 163 of the regular season David Wright Jersey , meaning Yelich’s stats — and those of Arenado and Baez — from Monday’s game will count in the totals. The last NL player to win the Triple Crown was Joe Medwick in 1937 for the Cardinals. The crowd of 41,848 at Miller Park serenaded Yelich with “MVP! MVP!” when he went to right field in the top of the first and then came to bat in the bottom of the frame.Yelich walked and scored on Jesus Aguilar’s single in the first, struck out swinging in the third and fifth and was walked intentionally in the seventh as the fans booed the move. He came out of the game in the eighth to a thunderous ovation.Typically low key, Yelich thought manager Craig Counsell’s move to send in Hernan Perez for him was “pretty cool.”Yelich tipped his cap just before ducking into the dugout as the crowd roared its approval.“I didn’t really know what to do,” Yelich said. “I told Couns (Counsell) after I came off the field that I don’t know what I was supposed to do there. So, I hope that was good enough. The fans have been awesome all year. They really came out and showed their support for us this last series.”The Brewers already had secured their first playoff appearance since 2011, the last time they won the NL Central. At the start of September, the Brewers were in third place and five games behind the Cubs with the Cardinals in second. Milwaukee went on a 19-6 tear to finish strong.“If we didn’t turn it around, we wouldn’t be going to Chicago,” Counsell said.Gio Gonzalez (10-11) toiled efficiently through five scoreless innings in his fifth start since being acquired on Aug. 31 from Washington. The left-hander, who helped the Nationals win four division titles in the last six seasons, scattered three hits.Aguilar hit his 35th homer, connecting in the fourth off Spencer Turnbull (0-2). Aguilar added an RBI grounder in the seventh. The Brewers, who went 86-76 last year, scored six times in the seventh. Ryan Braun and Orlando Arcia had two-run doubles.Travis Shaw hit his 32nd home run in the eighth. The Tigers, under first-year manager Ron Gardenhire, lost their fifth in a row and finished 64-98 for the second consecutive season. Gardenhire http://www.metsfanproshop.com/authentic-tim-tebow-jersey , who previously managed the Minnesota Twins (2002-2014), replaced Brad Ausmus.“The hope here is that we are doing exactly what we said we were going to do,” Gardenhire said of the rebuilding process. “We are going to rebuild this thing and start from the ground level up. We’re going to get young again next year. As long as we can keep them playing hard and start paying attention to the details of the game, we’ll be OK.”VICTOR MARTINEZ FARWELLThe five-time AL All-Star with the Cleveland Indians (2004, 2007, 2009), the Boston Red Sox (2010) and the Tigers (2014) played his final came of his 16-year major league career Sept. 22 when he started in Detroit against Kansas City.“You have the luxury of getting to watch a guy wind down his career right in front of your eyes,” Gardenhire said. “He meant so much to these guys in the clubhouse. After the big guy, (Miguel) Cabrera, got hurt, Victor kind of took over that leadership role, which he didn’t have to do. He was one of our leaders anyway. But he stepped up. It was about everything he did for these guys. Talking to them when they needed that. You’ve got to have a veteran presence.”

By the end of last season Pat Valaika Jersey , Ozuna struggled to make even routine throws.“Already that throw was more representative than a lot of the throws last year,” Cardinals‘ manager Mike Shildt said.Ozuna, a 28-year-old two-time All-Star, began 0 for 14 at the plate before dribbling a ball through the left side of the Houston infield for a single on Saturday.“The dugout requested the ball sort of good-naturedly,” Shildt said.Ozuna is 1 for 20 after an 0-for-3 day Monday.Ozuna hit .312 with 37 homers and 124 RBIs for the Miami Marlins in 2017 Daniel Castro Jersey , winning his first Gold Glove, then was traded by the payroll-paring Marlins. He hit .280 with 23 home runs and 88 RBIs last year. Despite Ozuna’s slow start, Shildt is seeing improvement at the plate.“He’s more on plane,” Shildt said. “He’s getting through the ball better. Or, for a contingent of the Braves’ prospective 2019 roster... drop like flies. If you’ve been following along closely over the past few weeks, you’re aware that this hasn’t exactly been a happy and healthy trip down south for the Braves. But, not to worry (or perhaps to worry more?) Bruce Rondon Jersey , MLB.com beat reporter Mark Bowman chimed in with some updates on some of team’s injured regulars this morning.Dansby Swanson, as you know, missed the tail end of the 2018 season (and the playoffs) with a wrist issue that apparently had bothered him for much of the year. Per Bowman’s latest update, he’s still not quite back to hitting in back-to-back games, and the Braves appear to be targeting Tuesday for his return to official game action. (We’ll see if that holds; we’ve seen sliding deadlines out of an abundance of caution before.) In the same vein, Josh Donaldson’s debut has been prospectively pushed to Wednesday, as team medical staff continue to make sure his calf is ready for the grind ahead.Meanwhile, the update on Mike Foltynewicz’ sore elbow is perhaps less sanguine than most expected:Mark that down as “something that could have been better for sure.” Sean Newcomb, Opening Day starter? Definitely something from the “things I never thought I’d hear in March 2019,” pile. Foltynewicz threw a career high 183 frames last year and is projected by the Fangraphs Depth Charts to top that with 187 this coming season, but he’s definitely gonna need everything health-wise to turn out a-okay to hit those marks.Stay tuned for more (hopefully not-injury-related) updates from Spring Training. Cooper-USA TODAY SportsThe biggest question for the Red Sox got its first answer on Saturday, as the Red Sox sent three pitchers down to minor-league camp http://www.whitesoxfanproshop.com/authentic-paul-konerko-jersey , leaving them just with the thirteen arms who are going to break camp with the squad on Opening Day in Seattle. First of all, the players optioned were Darwinzon Hernandez, Bobby Poyner and Marcus Walden, with the former being send down to Double-A and the latter two to Triple-A. As you can see, Juan Centeno and Gorkys Hern谩ndez were also taken off the major-league roster, though there’s no surprises there. As for the pitchers removed, Hern谩ndez wasn’t a huge surprise. He opened some eyes with his performance this spring, but the southpaw has to work on his command before he can reach his full potential in the majors. Plus, he’s still going to get a chance to make it as a starting pitcher beginning the year in Portland’s rotation. Poyner and Walden were a bit more surprising to see go, just because both had performed reasonably well this spring. Granted, we know spring performance is far from the be-all end-all of roster decisions, but in a battle like this is plays some role. Even starting the year in Pawtucket, they’ll get their chance in the majors at some point.Meanwhile Miguel Gonzalez Jersey , here are the eight relievers who will be starting the year on the major-league roster.Matt BarnesRyan BrasierTyler ThornburgBrandon WorkmanHeath HembreeBrian JohnsonHector Vel谩zquezColten BrewerEarlier in the week, Alex Cora had said three spots were up for grabs, but those top six spots always seemed all but certain to be filled by the names here. It was really the top two spots up for grabs. Vel谩zquez is the biggest surprise to me, as he as had a terrible spring. Again, that’s not everything but it’s hard to say it doesn’t matter at all. That said, he did spend all of 2018 in the majors so he always had an upper-hand for this spot. Brewer was a pre-camp favorite to get this spot, and while he was inconsistent in camp he came on strong towards the end and showed flashes of his potential throughout. So, now the pitching staff is set and there are just two more decisions to be made for the Red Sox roster. The first is what will happen with the catchers, as there are still three on the roster. With Sandy Le贸n’s name coming up in trade rumors earlier this week he appears to be the odd man out. Additionally, Steve Pearce has been slowed by injury and it’s unclear if he’ll be ready for the start of the year. If he is not ready to go, Sam Travis may take his spot as a right-handed complement to Mitch Moreland.

ATLANTA (AP) — Brewers right-hander Joakim Soria was placed on the 10-day disabled list Friday because of a strained right groin.Soria was injured while giving up a grand slam to Hunter Renfroe in the ninth inning Thursday in an 8-4 home loss to San Diego. Counsell said Josh Hader would fill the role. Who were the most and least well-known Diamondbacks this year?"A couple of weeks ago, we posted a Sporcle which invited you to test your powers of recall and name as many of the 49 players to have pulled on the Sedona Red in the season just gone. 135 of you stepped up to the plate: only three of you managed to recall every single man (and I’m not convinced that result could be reproduced under laboratory conditions, shall we say1). At the other end of the spectrum, eight of you named seven or fewer. I would like to think that the doorbell rang http://www.bluejaysfanproshop.com/authentic-curtis-granderson-jersey , or a fight broke out between your pets, something along those lines to distract you from the task at hand. Because if you couldn’t even name one starting line-up from last season... The median score (half above, half below) was 33. But what I found particularly interesting was the percentage scores for each Diamondback, with a VERY broad range. The most well-known player scored a point on all but four contestants’ entries [and for those four, again, I am hoping it was a cat-fight which distracted you!]. The least well-known was a swing and a miss for 115 out of the 135 players who took part. At the high end, I note the tight clustering of all three of our catchers - well http://www.bluejaysfanproshop.com/authentic-curtis-granderson-jersey , MAIN catchers, with all respect due to Chris Stewart... :) They occupied consecutive slots from #12-14, and it seems a bit odd for John Ryan Murphy to finish ahead of Zack Godley, Chris Owings and Yoshihisa Hirano.

About a year ago, they took a chance on a raw power arm named TayronGuerrero. The fastball velocity is impressive, routinely sitting at 98 to 100 mph and peaking at several ticks higher than that.Let’s take a look at the tape:Easy velo and natural arm talent are apparent here. That’s where the positives start to tail off, though. The UglyGuerrero gets hit at an alarming level for a guy with his velocity. He gets hit every which way you slice it. His batting average against is .272, 30 points higher than league average for relievers. His BABIP was also an extremely high .352. It went beyond just bad luck—the tall Colombian ranked in the 35th percentile in exit velocity against, according to Statcast, suggesting that opponents saw the ball well out of his hand and put their best swings on it.His distribution of hits also shows an interesting development. League-wide, the distributions mostly lead to the pull side. With Tayron Delino DeShields Jersey , the highest percentage of his hits are up the middle. It is very easy to locate pitch type with his elongated delivery and pitch percentage data. In addition to this, you will also notice his contact type of the lowest percentage is soft contact. So batters are, again, right on his pitches. Secondly, his inability to repeat his delivery leads me to have concerns about his focus. Guerrero often looks lackadaisical on the mound. He is your prototypical “thrower” rather than a “pitcher.”Last, I examined the zone profile in my search for positives. Huge mistake. He gets tagged everywhere against his four-seamer, which is the pitch he leans on 76 percent of the time:Tayron Guerrero - Zone Profile Against FastballBrooks BaseballAt least his changeup and slider provide some potential for solutions:Tayron Guerrero - Zone Profile Against SliderBrooks BaseballTayron Guerrero - Zone Profile Against ChangeupBrooks BaseballTayron would be wise to modify that offspeed weapon into a splitter or a split/change. He needs a deceptive pitch beside slider. The plane change of the splitter would be ideal. With his high velocity, the ability to recognize the pitch would be difficult. Plane change is very important in today’s game as many pitchers work the vertical axis—particularly the top of the strike zone—a lot more than in the past. This makes have a plane change pitch extremely important for most pitchers. When pitchers possess this type of pitch makes an even more significant challenge for hitters when pitchers combine that with horizontal movement. A pitcher who has a somewhat similar profile from a velocity standpoint is FrankieMontas. Montas has increased the usage of his splitter this spring and it has helped him significantly enough to earn a rotation spot. Despite the fact Tayron is not a starter, the profile of fastball/slider/split seems like one that would reap positive rewards. His slider is very effective and shows great potential merely for the fact that he has it. He doesn’t really throw the pitch with much polish and it’s extremely flat Joey Gallo Jersey , but paired with high-level velocity, it poses a solid combination for hitters to think about. This allowed it to be his most effective out-getting pitch last season.Tayron Guerrero - BAA Brooks BaseballUltimately, Guerrero is a work in progress and only time will tell if he will be able to put it all together. Lucky for him, the Marlins have opportunities for toolsy projects in 2019. He’ll be a middle reliever on Opening Day and attempt to grow into something much more than that by adjusting to be a more well-rounded pitcher in his second major league campaign.

KANSAS CITY http://www.raysfanproshop.com/authentic-evan-longoria-jersey , Mo. (AP) — St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Luke Weaver cut his finger while opening a food tray in the clubhouse at Kansas City and was scratched from his start against the Royals.Weaver had been scheduled to pitch Sunday. The accident occurred Saturday night when the righty sliced the index finger on his pitching hand on the aluminum foil covering a tray. Super glue was applied, but it did not hold sufficiently for Weaver to pitch deep into a game.Tyson Ross, claimed by the Cardinals last week off waivers from San Diego http://www.rangersfanproshop.com/authentic-matt-moore-jersey , pitched in place of Weaver.“He cut it on the piece of the topping,” Cardinals interim manager Mike Shildt said. “We found out about in the seventh inning. It just made sense long term to give him the day off.”“It’s on his right index finger. He probably could have started, but it just made sense to not push it and have him throw 90 or 100 pitches. We didn’t want him to miss another start Ivan Rodriguez Jersey ,” he said. “We want to put this behind him and have him move on to the next start, and give Tyson Ross an opportunity. It’s worked out for Tyson and for us to have a quality starter, and he’s available and is on more than regular rest.”The 24-year-old Weaver is 6-10 with a 4.66 ERA in 23 starts. WASHINGTON (AP) — The Washington Nationals scratched outfielder Bryce Harper from Thursday’s lineup with right knee soreness.Atlanta reliever Dan Winkler hit Harper just below the right knee in the seventh inning of the Braves’ 8-3 victory on Wednesday. Washington manager Dave Martinez said X-rays on Harper were negative.“We thought he was going to be OK http://www.rangersfanproshop.com/authentic-matt-moore-jersey ,” Martinez said. “He was out there trying to get loose this morning, and just couldn’t get loose. It was pretty swollen. So rather than him trying to play through it, we thought the best option would be having him come off the bench if we need him.“He’s going to stay in and get treatment.”Harper Prince Fielder Jersey , the 2015 National League MVP and a six-time All-Star, is hitting .234 with 28 home runs and 71 RBIs. He leads the NL in walks (88) and ranks third in the league in homers.Michael Taylor replaced Harper in the lineup in center.

Thearon W. Henderson/Getty ImagesSan Francisco Giants first baseman Brandon Belt will have a second MRI on his injured right knee and could undergo season-ending surgery in the near future.According to The Athletic's Andrew Baggarly Bradley Zimmer Jersey , manager Bruce Bochy told reporters Wednesday that Belt's season is "likely over." Belt has missed the Giants' last four games because of soreness in his right knee.Belt previously landed on the disabled list in late July after he suffered ahyperextendedknee. That injury cost him 17 games.Since returning to the diamond Aug. 14, Belt hasn't set the world on fire. He batted .185 in August, and he followed up with a .125 average in September before hitting the shelf again. If his season is over, Belt will finished the year with a .253/.342/.414 slash line, 14 home runs and 46 RBI across 456 plate appearances.Aramis Garcia, who is hitting .346 since getting called up Aug. 26, should serve as San Francisco's primary option at first base with Belt sidelined. Is the answer really that simple?"Consider that, over the last few years, playing time and roles have been anything but consistent for the former number one prospect in the Red Sox system. I alluded to 2016 above when Swihart was quickly yanked from the catching role and inexplicably placed in the outfield. He’d eventually suffer a year-ending injury in August, and in that entire year he played in just 19 games in the majors and 29 games in Pawtucket. Then, in 2017, Swihart spent most of the year in the minors Brandon Guyer Jersey , appearing in 62 games between Pawtucket and the GCL (on rehab assignment) with an additional six games in the big leagues. That’s 116 games across two seasons, and while a lot of was due to injury he also just couldn’t find consistent footing on any roster. That brought us to 2018, when Swihart entered the year lacking minor-league options. It was a sink-or-swim year for him, as the Red Sox still weren’t really sure how they saw him. Most saw him off the roster at some point shortly after the season began, if not beforehand, but a Christian V谩zquez injury made it easier to keep Swihart around. Still, he barely played, and when he did he was moving all around the diamond. It led to a poor year that finished with him being about 35 percent worse than the league-average hitter by both OPS+ and wRC+. However, he did look better in the second half when he started to play more. The two months in which the then-26-year-old received his highest total of plate appearances were July and September, and in those months he finished with OPS’s of 1.091 and .713, respectively. Of course, it should be mentioned in August he received only two fewer plate appearances than he did in July and he finished that month with a .479 OPS. Still http://www.indiansfanproshop.com/authentic-b.j.-upton-jersey , it was clear that as he began to play more Swihart started to look better at the plate.Changing my mind about the catchersKim Klement-USA TODAY SportsOn the other hand, even when he was receiving relatively consistent playing time in those minor-league stints he wasn’t hitting well against Triple-A pitching. In 2017, he played basically the entire month of April in Pawtucket and finished that month with an OPS of just .625. Then, after returning from an injury in late-May, Swihart received 111 plate appearances before another injury, and during that stretch he had an OPS of just .577. He didn’t start hitting better towards the end of either of those runs, either, which runs contrary to our playing time theory. While I don’t think we’ll have a good answer to this question without actually seeing it play out in 2019, the most helpful course of action from here would be to check what exactly has been holding him back at the plate against major-league pitching. It hasn’t really been a quality of contact — he hasn’t hit for power, but while that should theoretically improve some it’s likely never going to be a focal point of his game — as he’s posted good-to-great batting averages on balls in play over his entire career. Instead, it’s been his plate discipline, and more specifically his high strikeout rates. If Swihart isn’t going to be a big power hitter Josh Tomlin Jersey , and there’s little indication he’ll ever be that kind of hitter, then he needs to put the ball in play more. Over his career, the former first round pick has struck out over 25 percent of the time including a rate over 27 percent last year. At the peak of his prospect status he was striking out between 15 and 17 percent of the time. His zone recognition has been off, as in 2018 he was in the bottom-third of the league in swing rate on pitches in the zone while he was in the top-third of the league in swing rate on pitcher out of the zone. This is per Baseball Prospectus among the 360 players who saw at least 750 pitches in 2018. Swihart saw 798. To his credit, though, he did cut way down on his strikeouts in the second half when that more consistent playing time kicking in. After striking out in 34 percent of his plate appearances in the first half, that rate fell down to 24 percent after the All-Star break. It seems reasonable to believe seeing live pitching on a more consistent basis would help with more consistent contact.Photo by Elsa/Getty ImagesWith all of these words virtually spoken about Swihart, we haven’t even touched on the defense. I think it’s both true that he is better than the Red Sox organization has let on behind the plate and also that he is a significant step behind both Le贸n and V谩zquez. Ultimately, that is likely how the Red Sox are going to make that decision, as they appear to value defense much more at catcher than any other position and can live with a lack of offense there. Still, if Swihart can be a better, more consistent option at the plate with consistent playing time Carlos Carrasco Jersey , his defense is good enough to be a better option than Le贸n. It’s just that, if that theory is incorrect, he doesn’t have the strong baseline of defensive skill that Le贸n has. At the end of the day, I can’t honestly say I have a good feel for whether or not consistent playing time will click something for Swihart. I want to say yes, but the fact of the matter is he we are talking about a guy heading into his age-27 season who has one solid full season under his belt back in 2015. The other part of the calculation here is whether or not he’d get consistent playing time even if he is kept, because V谩zquez seems destined for the starting catcher job. I certainly would not begrudge the Red Sox for keeping Swihart over Le贸n, and the argument to do so that is perfectly sound. That being said, it may be best for the team to stick with the defense and the more known commodity. On top of that, it would almost certainly be best for Swihart to get a fresh start in another organization and make the Red Sox regret the decision once he gets that consistent playing time.

SEATTLE (AP) — Five games into the season http://www.royalsfanproshop.com/authentic-ryan-goins-jersey , Seattle manager Scott Servais had a message for Mariners fans: Don’t go to sleep. The Mariners once again battered Boston’s starting pitchers but nearly handed over another game in the ninth inning, holding on to beat the Red Sox 6-5 on Saturday night. Seattle started the ninth with a comfortable 6-2 lead, but young third baseman Dylan Moore committed three straight errors leading to three runs in his first major league start. The nervy ending came a night after Red Sox pinch-hitter Mitch Moreland hit a three-run home run in the ninth to steal a 7-6 victory.“I will say for all Mariners fans in the Midwest and the east part of the country, stay up late and watch the end of our games,” Servais said. “You never know what you’re going to get.”Jay Bruce hit his first home run for Seattle, a three-run shot to center field, and the heavy-hitting Mariners continued to dominate Boston’s starting pitching in the win.The Mariners have hit a home run in every game this season and continued to beat up Red Sox starters, with Bruce helping to chase Eduardo Rodriguez (0-1) in the fifth inning. Eight Seattle batters have hit 13 combined home runs, with nine coming against the defending World Series champions.“We’ve got a group of guys who come in here, we know what we want to do, we know what approach we want to take,” Bruce said. “What I’ve been most impressed with is the consistency of the work pregame. The game is the game, there are a lot of things you can’t control. But everybody comes here to work. It’s been crisp, consistent and I think it kind of echoes throughout the whole clubhouse.”Red Sox starters Chris Sale, Nathan Eovaldi and Rodriguez have given up 20 hits and 18 earned runs in the series. Bruce’s homer gave the Mariners 24 runs in their first 22 innings of the series. They’ve scored 21 of 42 runs this season on homers.“I think our guys are prepared going into games,” Servais said. “You see early in games we’re ready to hit. It doesn’t take us one time through the lineup for guys to make adjustments.”Boston manager Alex Cora had hoped Rodriquez could provide early help for his much-questioned bullpen with a goal of six or seven innings in the start. But the Mariners started hot with two runs in the first on RBI hits from Tim Beckham and Ryon Healy, both surging to start the season. Rodriquez reached 80 pitches in the fourth inning and was pulled after throwing 105 over 4 2/3 innings. He allowed eight hits http://www.royalsfanproshop.com/authentic-ryan-goins-jersey , five earned runs, with five strikeouts and three walks.“We don’t expect this but they’re human,” Cora said of his starters. “We know that’s not going to be the norm. They’re going to be OK.”Seattle starter Mike Leake was efficient in his first start after a dodgy preseason, scattering seven hits over six innings, with seven strikeouts and two walks. Leake (1-0) allowed RBI singles to Moreland in the second and J.D. Martinez in the third and got out of a jam in the fifth when he struck out Bogaerts with two men on base.Seattle seemed on its way to an easy victory until Boston scored three times in the ninth thanks to Moore, who committed two throwing errors and one fielding error – all with two outs. With the tying run at third base after the third of Moore’s errors, Nick Rumbelow struck out Bogaerts looking for his first save. Bogaerts struck out twice with four runners left on base.“The only thing that cures something like that is hard work,” Moore said. “You go out every day and work on your craft and get better at what you do.”TRAINING ROOMMariners closer Hunter Strickland was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right lat strain following a blown save in Friday’s 7-6 loss. The right-hander experienced stiffness in the back of his shoulder before giving up a three-run pinch-hit home run to Moreland in the ninth inning. While Strickland’s status is uncertain, the Mariners brought up RHP David McKay and could get help as soon as next week with the return of right-handed reliever Anthony Swarzak, who completed a minor league appearance on Friday night. … RHP Shawn Armstrong will throw 25 pitches from the mound for the first time Sunday since straining his oblique. … The Mariners moved third baseman Kyle Seager to the 60-day injured list. Seager is recovering from hand surgery after injuring himself diving for a ball in spring training.UP NEXTRed Sox: RHP Rick Porcello (17-7, 4.28 in 2018) makes his season debut after turning in one of his strongest seasons in 2018. Porcello recorded a career best 190 strikeouts, averaging 8.94 per nine innings.Mariners: LHP Wade LeBlanc (9-5, 3.72 in 2018) makes his first appearance of the season after a quiet spring training in which he made just two starts. LeBlanc pitched 7 2/3 scoreless innings in his last appearance vs. the Red Sox on June 16 last year. HOUSTON (AP) — This postseason may be best remembered for its bullpen openers. Just not in the AL Division Series between the Houston Astros and Cleveland Indians.Relief pitchers are covering entire games for other championship contenders this October, but the Astros and Indians are ready to roll old school, starting with Cy Young Award winners Justin Verlander and Corey Kluber facing off in Game 1 on Friday.“I love starters,” Astros manager AJ Hinch said Thursday. “Why? Because I’ve got good ones. I think that’s the easiest way to fall in love with a rotation and have that mindset, do I want my starters to go deep in the game? Yeah Alcides Escobar Jersey , they’re good.”Cleveland knows the feeling. This series will feature some of the best pitchers in the American League, with Cleveland’s Carlos Carrasco opposing two-time All-Star right-hander Gerrit Cole in the second game Saturday, and Mike Clevinger of the Indians and 2015 Cy Young winner Dallas Keuchel pitching in Monday’s Game 3.Verlander, a 14-year veteran, believes the AL West champion Astros and AL Central champion Indians have the top two rotations in the AL. He thinks the performance of each team’s starters will be paramount to success in this series.“Us and the Indians probably being 1 and 2, however you like to slice it, us and them, them and us,” he said. “Pick your poison. We both have very defined starters who have a great track record and have good stuff. This should be a really fun series.”Kluber pitched well in the postseason in 2016 when the Indians fell to the Cubs in the World Series. But he struggled in the ALDS last year against the New York Yankees while dealing with an aching back. He’s feeling healthier this time around and expecting a stronger performance.“Whether a game I pitch or a month I have or a year I have is good or bad, the way I look at it is I’m looking forward to the next one … not dwelling on previous outings or games, whether they’re good or bad,” he said. Some things to look for as the Indians and Astros open this best-of-five series.CORREA’S BACKHouston shortstop Carlos Correa hit .268 with 13 homers and 49 RBIs in the first half this season but struggled with a back injury for most of the second half. He missed about six weeks and hit just .180 with two homers and 16 RBIs in 37 games after the All-Star break.Though it wasn’t bothering him Thursday, the top overall pick in the 2012 draft said he isn’t sure that the problem is completely behind him.“One day I wake up and I’m fine and one day I wake up and my back is tight again,” he said. “Right now, I feel great. I feel ready to go and hopefully it doesn’t come back.”MORTON AND BAUERHouston’s Charlie Morton and Cleveland’s Trevor Bauer could end up starting Game 4, if necessary. However, they might also come out of the bullpen before that if any of their starters struggle. Manager Terry Francona has indicated Bauer could be used to eat up multiple innings like Andrew Miller did for the Indians in the last couple of postseasons.“Our job now is to take who we have now and get the best out of them. … If we get where we want http://www.royalsfanproshop.com/authentic-ryan-goins-jersey , my guess is that Trevor’s going to be used a ton,” Francona said.DONALDSON’S SEASONThird baseman Josh Donaldson, the 2015 AL MVP, spent most of the season on the disabled list with various injuries before being traded from Toronto to Cleveland on Aug. 31. He looked good in limited action at the end of the season, hitting .280 with three homers and seven RBIs in 16 games. The Indians hope he regains the form he’s shown in five career postseasons where he’s hit .292 with four homers and 13 RBIs.He’s looking forward to contributing after the tough path it took to get back on the field this year.“I definitely didn’t know if I was going to make it back this season,” he said. “But I was trying to do everything possible that I could, and I feel very fortunate and blessed to be in the position that I am right now and to hopefully help these guys achieve their ultimate goal.”VALUE OF SPEEDBoth the Astros and the Indians used one of their final roster spots on players who are valuable for their speed. Houston picked rookie Myles Straw over carrying a third catcher and the Indians went with Rajai Davis over backup shortstop Erik Gonzalez.Straw has been used almost exclusively as a pinch-runner since being called up on Sept. 15, and Hinch raved about what a player like him can do for a team in the postseason.“Straw can be a huge impact on the bases. … He is so fast he forced the third catcher off the roster,” Hinch said. “And that gives us a lot of weapons.”Davis was big for the Indians during their 2016 playoff run, hitting a tying home run in Game 7 of the World Series that Cleveland lost to the Cubs in 10 innings. The speedy Davis has proven to still be a threat on the bases this season and has 21 steals despite approaching his 38th birthday.Donaldson said the speed of Davis could really help Cleveland this postseason.“In the playoffs, I think what you look for is being able to score in a multitude of different ways: One, the home run ball; B is small ball; and then, three, just pure speed,” he said. “And that’s what he brings.”

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Neal Huntington raised eyebrows last winter when the Pittsburgh Pirates general manager said the club’s decision to trade franchise cornerstones Andrew McCutchen and Gerrit Cole wouldn’t affect the team’s ability to win the World Series in 2018.The message Huntington was trying to send was lost in his unwieldy delivery: that flipping Cole and McCutchen for younger major league talent would help the Pirates contend into 2019 and beyond. While Huntington’s short-term version was spot on — the Pirates were out of the playoff picture by late August — whether his long-term vision pans out remains uncertain.Yet he and manager Clint Hurdle are confident Pittsburgh took a significant step forward in 2018. The Pirates won 82 games — just the franchise’s fourth winning season in a quarter century — and head into 2019 with far fewer question marks than a year ago.The starting rotation Brian Flynn Jersey , led by breakout seasons by Jameson Taillon and Trevor Williams and an uncharacteristically aggressive move at the trade deadline to acquire Chris Archer from Tampa Bay, morphed from a question mark into an exclamation point. The catching tandem of Francisco Cervelli and Elias Diaz was among the most offensively potent in the National League. Third baseman Colin Moran — part of the deal that sent Cole to Houston — was steady if not always spectacular in his first full season. Left fielder Corey Dickerson hit .300 and proved more than capable of playing above-average defense at spacious PNC Park. Closer Felipe Vazquez was an All-Star again and received help when the Pirates acquired reliever Keone Kela from Texas.“We had ups and we had downs,” Taillon said. “I think you saw a lot of growth from young guys. I think this group is going to be together for a long time. That’s exciting to me.”The key over the next six months is finding a way to carry that momentum forward. Having the front office splurge for some offensive help for a group that finished in the bottom half of the major leagues in runs, home runs, slugging and OPS would help. So would consistency. The team took a step toward addressing the problem Monday, announcing that hitting coach Jeff Branson and assistant hitting coach Jeff Livesey will not return next season. The Pirates in 2018 were equal parts promising and problematic. How else to explain a year that included a 26-17 stretch, an 11-31 free fall, an 11-game winning streak, a 10-17 August and a 16-10 September?“The best players, the best teams in our game find a way to keep the good stretches longer and the bad stretches shorter,” Huntington said. “We need to find a way to do that collectively and individually.”A look back and forward at a team that believes it is poised to be a legitimate factor next summer.YOUNG GUNSTaillon looked every bit the staff ace Pittsburgh expected when it drafted him in the first round nearly a decade ago. The 26-year-old won 14 games overall and posted a 2.33 ERA after the All-Star break http://www.royalsfanproshop.com/authentic-ryan-goins-jersey , a mark that was only good enough for second on the team after Williams shook off a bumpy stretch to go 7-3 with a 1.38 ERA in his final 12 starts. The only real question mark for the rotation in 2019 is if Ivan Nova returns. The veteran turns 32 in January, is due $9.1 million and went 9-9 with a 4.19 ERA, making him an expensive luxury for a fourth starter.MIDDLE MENThe last links to Pittsburgh’s run of three straight playoff berths from 2013-15 could be moving on. Shortstop Jordy Mercer will become a free agent and the Pirates are unlikely to exercise their $10 million club option on second baseman Josh Harrison.Adam Frazier showed he’s capable of taking over for Harrison after hitting .306 with seven home runs in the second half. Kevin Newman will be given an extended look in spring training to replacing Mercer.POWER OUTAGEFirst baseman Josh Bell hit just 12 home runs this season — 14 less than he hit in 2017 — and Bell is well aware that total needs to go up in 2019.“If I can do damage to the opposite gap and kind of put some pressure on the pitcher, especially in (PNC Park), pitchers will start making mistakes and I can start putting the balls in the seats,” Bell said. “That’s just for me personally. I have some growing to do this offseason.”GOING, GOING, KANG?Third baseman Jung Ho Kang’s long climb back to the majors ended when he played in the season-ending series in Cincinnati. The Pirates won’t exercise their option on Kang for 2019 but could bring him back at a lower price provided Kang’s visa issues and the drunk driving problems that plagued him in his native Korea are finally behind him.

What if we had been able to steal Machado from the Padres?"This is what I assumed happened last week: Having read my previous installment on the Minnesota Twins Offeason What if: Bryce Harper Brian Dozier Jersey , the Padres decided to pull the trigger before I could write this article and persuade the Twins front office, who obviously also read my articles, to sign Manny Machado. If you somehow avoided both my previous article and the generously provided link above, let me introduce the What-If series. I am taking a look during spring training at what could have been, if the Twins had just decided to pony up the cash for the winter’s biggest free agents, who still didn’t have jobs into February. As with my piece on Harper, I will avoid unrealistic secondary signings or trades. I can’t sign Harper and Machado. I can’t sign Machado and then trade Lamont Wade and Kohl Stewart for JT Realmuto. I will, however, look at both what would have happened if Machado signed right at the beginning of free agency as well as what would have happened if the Twins snuck in a deal right before the pesky Padres.November 3rd, 2018: Twins Sign Manny Machado to 10-year, $310 million contractThe signing of Manny Machado last week actually said quite a bit about the state of his market. As far as many media members know, the Chicago White Sox had an offer on the table for Machado for some time, probably being offered in January. Initial rumors said the offer was a low ball offer of something like 7 years and $175 million dollars, far below the $300 million he was expected to sign for at the beginning of the offseason and the insane $400 million figure the media was throwing around a few years ago. As we got closer to and into Spring Training, it was rumored that Machado would sign with whatever team gave him the most money, trying to get to that initial $300 million number that is so perfectly rounded and historical. The White Sox had reportedly upped their offer to 8 years and $250, still a bit nervous of that $300 number. But the Padres weren’t, overshooting the White Sox by a cool $50 million. Machado took that nice round offer even though the White Sox offered a higher AAV. It is pretty obvious that Machado was waiting for a $300 million offer and that there wasn’t going to be one until the Padres decided to shock the baseball world.Even though we know he was waiting for that $300 million deal, it is impossible to estimate what sort of offer would have gotten the deal done for the Twins at the beginning of the offseason. If the Twins offer that deal on November 3rd Justin Morneau Jersey , does Machado take it, or does he wait for another offer? Do the Padres match the Twins offer or go slightly above? Does a true bidding war occur, bringing in big market teams? Do the Phillies throw more money around if they know other teams are? Do the White Sox decide to go all-in to keep Machado away from their divisional rivals? We have little to no idea if Machado’s market, or lack thereof, was due to genuine doubt, collusion, honestly contagious spending habits (which I think is most likely), or some combination of all the above. So for the sake of simplicity I’m going with a 10-year, $310 million contract at the start of the offseason, assuming that the Padres would still offer their $300 million contract but not get into a bidding war, and that the White Sox were honest in saying they couldn’t go above $250 million (like the peasants they are). The extra ten million I’m offering fulfills Machado’s desire to go with whoever offers the most money, while not being a trivial amount like a simple million or two extra. If the Twins simply offer Machado the same amount as the Padres, I’m not sure they win the tie, and it's not because of the weather or market size. Machado makes Miami his home in the winter so he wouldn’t be here to freeze his tail off. Depending on whos’ numbers you go by, the Twins actually have a legitimately larger market than the Padres. Maybe the California connection would lead to more advertisement deals, but I think the reason Machado would go with the Padres if offered two identical deals is because the Padres have a more robust farm system, as currently ranked. The Padres have one of the best, if not the best farm system in baseball led by Fernando Tatis Jr., Luis Urias http://www.twinsfanproshop.com/authentic-max-kepler-jersey , and Francisco Mejia. The Padres’ also have a robust list ofstarting pitching prospects at various levels (the Padres have 6 starting pitching prospects on the MLBPipeline top 100 list, along with the three position players listed— the Twins have 3 players on the list total). Machado can hang out with Eric Hosmer for a year or two as the kids figure it out, with the team then forced into a win-now mode to buy and trade for Major League pitching to make them competitive. This real life scenario is likely a more attractive option than playing with the Twins current bounce back candidates and the combination of Royce Lewis, Alex Kirilloff, and a host of other players that are a year or two away from establishing legitimate prospect status. As much as I like our farm system (and the media generally agrees it is very good) it simply does not match what the Padres have. But let's be honest, it isn’t about the prospects, it’s about the money. So we go just a tad higher and get Machado’s services for the next decade.Additional Moves MadeThe Twins sign Nelson Cruz to 1 year deal with team option. The Twins sign Blake Parker and Martin Perez to add to the pitching staff. The Twins sign Jorge Polanco and Max Kepler to 5 year extensions. The Twins sign Marwin Gonzalez to 2 year deal. The Twins sign Lucas Duda to a minor league deal.Real Moves that changeThe Twins do not sign Jonathan Schoop to a one year dealThe Twins do not pick CJ Cron off waivers or offer him a 1 year contract.Twins Opening Day LineupJorge Polanco - (S) - SSManny Machado - (R) - 3BNelson Cruz - (R) - DHEddie Rosario - (L) - LFMiguel Sano - (R) - 1BMarwin Gonzalez - (S) - 2BMax Kepler - (L) - RFkeeping the contract the same here, using the same principle that the Padres’ won’t get into a bidding war (even though they could probably win it) and that Machado goes for the biggest offer. With Schoop and Cron already signed, I don’t think the Twins would be able to find trade partners for both or be willing to eat that much money. This means the Twins would be out on Gonzalez and would have to eat the contract of Cron, who passed through waivers to get to the Twins in the first place.Twins Opening Day LineupJorge Polanco - (S) - SSEddie Rosario - (L) - LFManny Machado - (R) - 3BNelson Cruz - (R) - DHMiguel Sano - (R) - 1BMax Kepler - (L) - RFJonathan Schoop - (R) - 2BByron Buxton - (R) - CFJason Castro - (L) - CTwins Opening Day BenchMitch Garver - (R) - C/1BEhire Adrianza - (S) - SS/INFJake Cave - (L) - OFWillians Astudillo - (R) - C/3BYou lose the versatility of Gonzalez but have a higher overall power potential, as Schoop still hits 20 home runs in a bad year and in my opinion is more likely to get back to the 30 homer mark than Gonzalez is to get back to the 20 homer mark. You can still sub in Garver and Astudillo to give the starting infielders a day off with a variety of different looks, but you do lose the versatility of Gonzalez — who is probably a better defensive outfielder than either of the catching duo.ThoughtsWhen I started this series I thought signing Harper made the most sense, as adding another impact lefty would take pressure of Kepler’s bat while also providing balance around the Cruz-Sano-Schoop trio. But after working through this exercise and looking at the financials, Signing Machado + Gonzalez is far better than signing Harper + Schoop. Not only does it keep your stellar outfield defense intact, but it also gives you a Gold Glove third baseman most days while still signing Polanco long term, and leaving room for Royce Lewis to take over the shortstop role in due time.So again, the question becomes: if the move made so much sense, why didn’t the Twins pull the trigger? In the Harper scenario I argued that Harper was never going to come to a small midwest market, primarily because of advertising opportunities. Machado Byron Buxton Jersey , on the other hand, did go to a small market team, so what gives?I think timing is everything with Machado and signing him early has significant butterfly effects on the rest of the market that render the November 3rd lineup listed above to be an impossibility. If the Twins or anybody else had offered Machado 10 years and $300 million on day one of free agency, there likely would have been a legitimate bidding war, up to maybe $350 million. I don’t think the Twins could go that high for Machado, and even if they could Machado would then have had his choice of historical contracts instead of being forced to take the first one that came to him.The other big thing to consider is that the first lineup looks amazing because in this magical Christmas-land we are able to get Machado and Marwin Gonzalez on a deal that frankly robs Scott Boras of a European sports car (or whatever he does with his money). If we find a way to win that early bidding war for Machado, do we have the cash to sign Gonzalez? Probably not. Does an early bidding war over one of the superstars coax teams into spending big all offseason, and thus render the real life Gonzalez deal impossible? Probably. Or do the Twins skimp on that second signing and bring back Logan Forsythe (or any other bargain stand-in) to play second while keeping the salary below $130 million? I don’t know. While Machado + Schoop is still better than Schoop + Cron + Gonzalez, I think it's safe to say that the front office didn’t think it was possible from a logistical or financial point of view. A 10 year contract, money aside, is too long a contract in today’s up and down baseball world. It was never going to happen, but man, what if.Check back in next week as we take a crack at Minnesota Twins Offseason What If: Dallas Keuchel Jayne Kamin-Oncea/Getty ImagesTrying to boost their beleaguered bullpen down the stretch, the Colorado Rockies have reportedly reached a deal for right-handed pitcherSeunghwan Oh.MLB Network's Jon Morosifirst reportedthe Rockies and Toronto Blue Jays were close to a trade agreement for Oh.Per The Athletic's Robert Murray, the two teams agreed to a deal. After spending his first two MLB seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals, Oh signed a one-year deal with the Blue Jays in February. The South Korean reliever has a 2.68 ERA with 55 strikeouts and 37 hits allowed in 47 innings over 48 appearances in 2018.The Rockies tried to build a super bullpen during the offseason by re-signing Jake McGee and adding Bryan Shaw and Wade Davis in free agency. SCOTTSDALE http://www.brewersfanproshop.com/authentic-orlando-arcia-jersey , Ariz. (AP) — Trevor Story saw the Colorado Rockies‘ lineup and thought ahead to the regular season.“It gives you a little excitement, maybe a little preview,” the All-Star shortstop said after hitting a home run and getting a base hit in three at-bats Wednesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks.“I think we’re getting there, we feel like we’re heading in the right direction,” he said.Story is coming off the best of his three big-league seasons after hitting 37 homers and stealing 27 bases in 2018. He made his first All-Star appearance and homered in that game as well.He was also instrumental in helping the Rockies to the wild card and a berth in the National League Division Series, their first since 2009.For now, manager Bud Black has moved Nolan Arenado to the No. 2 spot in the batting order, behind Charlie Blackmon. Free-agent addition Daniel Murphy slots in between Arenado and Story, with outfielders David Dahl and Ian Desmond behind the shortstop. With Kyle Freeland also on the mound and taking his turn at the plate Wednesday, it could be the lineup that takes the field in the opener March 28 at Miami. New second baseman Ryan McMahon and veteran catcher Chris Iannetta also started. If Story — fully healthy after right elbow pain threatened to sideline him late last season — can duplicate his 2018 success, the Rockies may be even more dangerous than last season’s 91-72 squad.“Trevor’s doing well. He’s locked in,” manager Bud Black said. “He’s in a good spot.”For the first time, Story is coming into a season with health and confidence. His strong 2016 rookie year ended early with a right thumb injury.“That experience helps me a lot Domingo Santana Jersey ,” Story said of last season. “At this point it’s about how I’m attacking pitchers, and realizing how they’re attacking me, and creating a good plan.”Story struggled at the plate in 2017, striking out an NL-high 191 times and batting just .239.“I want to strike out less,” said Story, who still struck out 162 times a year ago.“There’s always places to get better in this game,” he said. “Make more adjustments and I want to keep getting better on defense.”The Diamondbacks’ Nick Ahmed won the Gold Glove for NL shortstops last year. But with Arenado and his six awards to Story’s immediate right, he doesn’t have to look far to see the possibilities.“It’s inspiring for sure. I see the work those guys have put in and it’s something I want to win,” Story said. The Cleveland Indians, with closer Cody Allen reeling, will try to regroup Saturday night in the second game of a three-game series with the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Mo.The AL Central-leading Indians have lost three in a row, the last of which was a crushing 5-4 defeat on Friday night Eric Sogard Jersey , when Allen had the worst night of the worst season of his career.Allen came in to start the ninth inning, and in the span of four pitches gave up two home runs to turn a 4-3 Indians lead into a 5-4 Indians defeat.Article continues below ...Allen has saved 30 or more games in each of the last three years, and he is the Indians’ all-time leader with 147 saves, but this season has been a struggle. His blown save Friday was his fourth of the season, and he has given up a career-high 11 home runs.Cleveland manager Terry Francona said the Indians have not lost confidence in Allen.“I’ll sit down and talk to him,” Francona said. “We need him really bad to win. We can’t run away from him.”Allen’s 4.50 ERA is a career high, and a far cry from his 2.86 career mark.“It’s disappointing. But we’ll go look at it more to see if there’s anything,” Francona said. “It begins with his breaking ball, when he commands that everything falls into place. Right now, he feels like some nights he doesn’t have it.”Saturday night the Indians will send two-time Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber to the mound. Kluber (16-6, 2.74) will be making his 27th start of the season, and he is coming off a winning performance against the Red Sox in his last start, on Monday http://www.brewersfanproshop.com/authentic-orlando-arcia-jersey , in Boston. Kluber pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing three runs and nine hits with six strikeouts and one walk in a game the Indians won 5-4.In his last five starts Kluber is 4-0 with a 2.21 ERA. His last start against Kansas City came on July 2, a 9-3 victory in which he pitched six innings, allowing three runs and seven hits, with five strikeouts and no walks. In two starts against the Royals this year, Kluber is 2-0 with a 2.08 ERA. He has made 22 career starts against Kansas City and is 11-6 with a 2.90 ERA in those games. The Royals on Saturday will counter with right-hander Heath Fillmyer (1-1, 4.57). Fillmyer has split his season between Kansas City and Triple-A Omaha. In 13 starts with Omaha he was 4-5, with a 5.75 ERA.With Kansas City Fillmyer has been used as both a starter and a reliever. In seven starts he is 1-1 with a 5.29 ERA. In four relief appearances he has a 2.38 ERA and no record. He got his first major-league win on Aug. 8, when he pitched seven shutout innings against the Cubs in a 9-0 victory. Fillmyer struck out three and walked two in that game.“I didn’t have many strikeouts today,” Fillmyer said of the victory, according to MLB.com. “I didn’t want to walk them. I ended up having two unfortunate ones that didn’t end up costing us. That being said, I just let them work ahead and try to get them to get themselves out.”Saturday will be Fillmyer’s second career appearance against Cleveland. His other appearance came as a reliever, on July 4 Zach Davies Jersey , when he pitched three scoreless and hitless innings, with two strikeouts and one walk. One of the Cleveland hitters Fillmyer will have to pay particular attention to is Indians rookie center fielder Greg Allen, who has been one of the Indians’ hottest hitters of late. From July 15 through Aug. 21, Allen had a 14-game hitting streak, the longest by a major league rookie this season. In his last 16 games Allen is hitting .383, raising his batting average from .204 to .259.“He’s using the whole field, keeping the ball out of the air to left field, staying on the ball, and hitting line drives,” said Francona.

HOUSTON (AP) — It’s October and George Springer http://www.angelsfanproshop.com/authentic-zack-cozart-jersey , Jose Altuve and Alex Bregman are all hitting home runs once again, helping the Houston Astros to a postseason win.A year after launching a World Series-record 15 homers in winning their first championship, the Astros picked up right where they left off, hitting four home runs to power past the Cleveland Indians 7-2 Friday in Game 1 of the AL Division Series.Martin Maldonado also connected for the Astros, who didn’t waste any time displaying the same power that carried them to last year’s title.Much was made about the pitching prowess these teams possess in the days leading up to this game. But it was a bunch of longballs to put the Astros ahead in this best-of-five series.“As much as I’ve heard different opinions about our offense, it’s pretty long, it’s pretty good, it’s pretty potent,” manager AJ Hinch said. “Case in point today.”Houston’s pop backed up a solid start by Justin Verlander, who bested Corey Kluber in a matchup of Cy Young Award-winning aces in the first postseason meeting between these teams.Verlander took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and got his 12th playoff win. He allowed two hits and two runs in 5 1/3 innings — the Indians finished with only three hits, all singles.Kluber Darin Erstad Jersey , a two-time Cy Young winner who was coming off his first 20-win season, was tagged for three home runs in 4 2/3 innings. It was a repeat performance from last October’s ALDS, when he made two starts against the Yankees and left with a 12.79 ERA.Game 2 is Saturday in Houston. Gerrit Cole starts for the Astros against Carlos Carrasco. The Astros hit 27 homers last postseason — Springer hit five in the World Series and set a record by connecting in four straight games on his way to winning the MVP award.Bregman, coming off a breakout year, got Houston’s first hit with his drive to the Crawford Boxes in left field to start a two-run fourth inning.“The only thing I can say about him is without him we wouldn’t be here,” Altuve said. The 103-win Astros were still up 2-0 when Springer led off the fifth with a full-count homer to left. That made him just the third player in major league history to homer in five straight postseason games.“I’m happy that I was able to help us win in all of those games and be a sparkplug,” Springer said. Two pitches later Altuve, last year’s AL MVP, connected for his eighth career postseason homer when he also sent one to left field. He began last year’s playoffs with three home runs in the ALDS opener against Boston.Kluber watched stone-faced as Altuve headed for first and shook his head slightly as he rounded the bases and the crowd roared with scattered chants of “MVP.”Kluber followed up his splendid regular season with another playoff dud. A year after giving up four homers in two starts against the Yankees, the longball again proved to be a problem for him. He left with two outs in the fifth inning after allowing six hits and four runs while walking three.“Last year has nothing to do with today,” Cleveland manager Terry Francona said. “They’re a good team. He made a couple mistakes. They made him pay for it.”Verlander was masterful through the first five innings http://www.angelsfanproshop.com/authentic-zack-cozart-jersey , with Cleveland’s only baserunner in that span coming on a walk to Jose Ramirez with two outs in the first. The Houston right-hander set down 13 in a row after that, fanning seven, including striking out the side in the third.Yan Gomes broke up the no-hitter with his single to shallow right field to start the sixth and Francisco Lindor singled with one out in the inning. When Verlander walked Michael Brantley to load the bases after that, Hinch had seen enough and replaced him with Ryan Pressly. The Indians cut the lead to 4-1 on a wild pitch by Pressly, who came to Houston in a July trade, and got within two when Lindor scored on a groundout by Ramirez.Maldonado, making his playoff debut, connected off Cody Allen for a two-out homer in the seventh. Bregman made it 6-2 with an RBI single later in the inning.UNHAPPY HECTORHouston reliever Hector Rondon, who Hinch said was “very upset” about not making the ALDS roster, did not come onto the field when he was introduced with the team’s reserves before the game. He also was not on the field during the national anthem, but did join the team in the dugout for the game.Rondon Shohei Ohtani Jersey , signed by the Astros to a two-year deal in the offseason, was left off the roster in favor of hard-throwing rookie Josh James because of his ability to throw multiple innings.Hinch said Rondon could be used in the ALCS if the Astros advance. Rondon was 2-5 with 15 saves and a 3.20 ERA in 63 games.FOR STARTERSIn a season where openers and using multiple relievers instead of defined starters has become popular, Verlander believes that true starters like him remain very important to the game.“I think you need it,” he said. “I think the more relievers get used every single day, it has an effect … I don’t have the answers. But I do believe in innings. I believe in protecting the bullpen. And I believe in a starting pitcher.”UP NEXTCole (15-5, 2.88 ERA) ranked second in the AL with 276 strikeouts this season, only trailing Verlander’s 290, and was fifth with 200 1/3 innings pitched. He will be making his fourth playoff start and first since 2015 with the Pirates. He is 1-2 with a 3.94 ERA in those games. It will be just the second career postseason start for Carrasco (17-10, 3.38), who is 4-2 with a 3.45 ERA in eight appearances, with seven starts against Houston. The Pittsburgh Pirates maintained some depth in the infield by agreeing to a deal with third baseman Jung Ho Kang.Per MLB.com's Adam Berry Brandon Phillips Jersey , Kang re-signed with the Pirates on a one-year contract after he played just three games during the 2018 season.Kang has had off-field issues that have limited him to just three games since the start of 2017. He wasarrested and chargedwith fleeing the scene of a DUI accident in his native South Korea.TheSeoul Central District Court issued Kang atwo-year suspended prison sentencein March 2017, which made himunableto obtain a work visa. His appeal was upheld that May, making him ineligible to work in the United States. The Pirates placed him on the restricted list.Kang was able to secure a work visaand cleared to return to the Pirates last April. He issued a statement about the situation, viaBerry:"After a long, painful process, I am excited to have a chance to return to the game that I have missed so much. My focus is first on becoming the best person that I can be. Secondly, I look forward to getting to Pirate City and demonstrating that I am committed to doing whatever I can to get back to Pittsburgh and help the Pirates win. I will not disappoint anyone anymore."Kang missed time last season after undergoingwrist surgeryin August. The 31-year-old has hit .274/.355/.482 in 232 career games with the Pirates. The Pirates will likely use Kang, who has a .737 career OPS against left-handed pitching, in a platoon at third base with Colin Moran (.503 OPS vs. left-handed pitching in 2018).

Jeff Gross/Getty ImagesThe Boston Red Sox overcame a 4-0 deficit with nine runs in the final three innings to defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers Daniel Murphy Jersey , 9-6, in Game 4 of the World Series on Saturday evening.Boston is now up three games to one and has a chance to clinch its fourth championship in 15 seasons with a victory on Sunday night. Game time is Sunday at 8:15 p.m. ET, with Fox televising the game live from Los Angeles.L.A. is a slight -125 favorite (bet $125 to win $100) to send the series back to Fenway Park, per OddsShark, and the over/under total is seven runs. Two left-handed aces will go against each other, as Clayton Kershaw gets the call for Los Angeles, while David Price does the same for Boston.Chris Sale was in line to make his second start of the series after starting Game 1, but manager Alex Cora opted to go with Price on three days' rest from his last start. In Game 1, Kershaw threw four full frames but allowed five earned runs in an eventual 8-4 loss. Price, on the other hand, went six innings and allowed only two earned runs in the Sox's Game 2 win, as well as coming on in relief for two-thirds of an inning in the Sox's Game 3 loss.Though Kershaw, in particular, didn't show it his last time out, these two are both capable of trading zeroes in a classic pitcher's duel. Here's a look at the most current World Series MVP props (via Oddschecker) alongside some commentary. Martinez leads the way at 12-5. The slugger delivered run-scoring hits in his first two series at-bats http://www.nationalsfanproshop.com/authentic-matt-adams-jersey , but he's had just one hit in his 12 at-bats since. That lonesome hit was a big one, though, as a two-run single in the fifth inning of Game 2 turned a 2-2 game into a 4-2 lead for the Sox. That score didn't change as Boston took a 2-0 series lead. The issue with picking an MVP for the Red Sox is that the team has had different heroes in each of their three wins.Left fielder Andrew Benintendi was the star in Game 1 with four hits and three runs.Martinez, outfielder Mookie Betts (three hits and the game-winning run) and starting pitcher David Price (six innings, two earned runs, a win) tag-teamed Boston's Game 2 effort. And the clear Game 4 hero was first baseman Steve Pearce, who hit the game-tying home run in the eighth inning before a bases-clearing double turned a nail-biting 5-4 advantage into a (somewhat) comfortable 8-4 lead.If one of those aforementioned hitters posts another strong outing en route to a Sox win, then expect that person to win the World Series MVP. In other words, if Martinez smacks a 450-foot dinger off Kershaw Sunday, he'll likely be lifting the trophy. The sneaky bet here might be Price, however. If he posts another excellent start and wins his second game of the series, then how can you not give the MVP to him? The only way is if someone has a Reggie Jackson-esque game and delivers a few home runs and a bunch of runs batted in.On the Dodgers' side, infielder Max Muncy at 30-1 is an intriguing bet if you think L.A. can come back, if only for his game-ending home run in the Dodgers' 18-inning marathon victory over the Red Sox on Friday night. Muncy has a head start on his teammates in that regard, as he helped keep the Dodgers' hopes alive. Those hopes are bleak right now Max Scherzer Jersey , however, as L.A. needs to win three straight (including two in Boston) to take the World Series. Such a comeback wouldn't be unprecedented, however, as the Chicago Cubs came back from down 3-1 against the Cleveland Indians with a home victory before two road wins in the 2016 World Series. ST. It was all part of the package.”Taillon has gone seven innings or more seven times this season and has limited opponents to two runs or fewer in all of those outings.“Having a slider helps, it’s something else I can throw,” Taillon said.Jose Martinez hit into a run-scoring forceout in the eighth inning against Felipe Vazquez http://www.nationalsfanproshop.com/authentic-matt-adams-jersey , who allowed Patrick Wisdom’s run-scoring single in the ninth. Vazquez rebounded to strike out DeJong and Matt Carpenter with two on to end the game for his 22nd consecutive save and 32nd in 36 chances this year.“He went to next-level stuff,” said Pittsburgh catcher Jacob Stallings, who drove in three runs. “To get those two punch-outs against those quality hitters was pretty spectacular.”Pittsburgh has won six of eight. The Chicago Cubsdidn't wait until the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline to address their bullpen.Chicago announced Thursday it acquired veteran reliever Jesse Chavez from the Texas Rangers for minor league pitcher Tyler Thomas. The Cubs are his ninth team in his 11-year career and sixth since 2015.Chavez is having one of his best seasons http://www.yankeesfanproshop.com/authentic-giancarlo-stanton-jersey , posting a 3.51 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP in 30 appearances. He has 50 strikeouts in 56.1 innings and has issued just 12 walks. The 34-year-old will be a free agent after the season.Chicago had baseball's fourth-best bullpen ERA and the second-best in the National League during the first half at 3.09. The likes ofBrandon Morrow,Steve Cishek and Randy Rosario all have posted sub-2.00 ERAs in 20-plus outings, with a trio of others coming in under 3.00.But a team can never have too much bullpen depth鈥攅specially considering Morrow hit the disabled list Thursday with lower back tightness, per MLB.com'sCarrie Muskat.Thomas, meanwhile, was a seventh-round pick in last year's draft. The southpaw has gotten off to a strong start to his pro career, posting a 2.77 ERA in 26 games between two levels of Single-A. He had a 2.88 ERA and an impressive 0.96 WHIP in 15 outings (14 starts) for the South Bend Cubs this year, striking out 105 in 94.1 innings. The deal makes sense for both sides. The Cubs hold a 2.5-game lead over the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central and just brought in a proven arm manager Joe Maddon can turn to in key situations. The last-place Rangers http://www.yankeesfanproshop.com/authentic-giancarlo-stanton-jersey , on the other hand, added a promising young pitcher who could help the team down the road. The Milwaukee Brewers and Los Angeles Dodgers asserted their dominance on the first day of play in the NLDS.Now the challenge for the home sides in Friday's Game 2s is to bank off the momentum gained from Game 1 and take a 2-0 series lead into Colorado and Atlanta, respectively. The Dodgers paved the easier path to victory Thursday, as they shutout the Braves at Dodger Stadium to set Clayton Kershaw up for success Friday.Milwaukee's peculiar bullpen strategy ended up working, but the Brewers needed 10 innings to dispense of the Rockies. The Brewers are expected to opt for a more conventional route with their pitching in Game 2 at Miller Park while their lineup tries to stay hot against a familiar foe. Friday NLDS ScheduleGame 2:Colorado at Milwaukee (4:15 p.m. ET, FS1)Game 2:Atlanta at Los Angeles (9:37 p.m. ET, FS1)Both games can be live-streamed on Fox Sports Go or the Fox Sports app.Brewers Looking For More Success Against AndersonTyler Anderson's August 4 start against the Brewers was one of his worst outings in the second half of the season. The left-handed starter was roughed up during a four-inning stintas the Brewers put up seven runs on seven hits.Jae C. Hong/Associated PressSix of those runs were scored in the first inning, as the top of the Milwaukee order jumped on Anderson http://www.yankeesfanproshop.com/authentic-giancarlo-stanton-jersey , with Travis Shaw's grand slam highlighting the offensive outburst. In Thursday's Game 1, Christian Yelich and Ryan Braun recorded two hits each out of the No. 2 and No. 3 positions in the order.Yelich, who should be the National League MVP, continued his tear at the plate with a three-run home run in the third inning.Jeff Roberson/Associated PressIf the top third of the order attains the same level of success it had against Anderson in August and in Game 1, the Brewers will push across a few runs in the opening innings. From the Rockies' perspective, they're hoping to get similar results out of Anderson as they did in September, as he allowed four earned runs in his last three regular-season starts. In his final start before the postseason, Anderson tossed 7.2 innings of shutout ball against the Washington Nationals.Jhoulys Chacin http://www.yankeesfanproshop.com/authentic-giancarlo-stanton-jersey , who pitched for the Rockies at the start of his career, takes the mound for the Brewers in Game 2 after giving up one hit and one earned run in the NL Central tiebreaker against the Chicago Cubs Monday.Chacin's lone regular-season start against the Rockies came May 10, when he gave up four hits and two earned runs in 5.1 innings. In his last five starts, Chacin's conceded three runs or fewer, and his performance Monday suggests he'll produce another efficient outing. If Anderson and Chacin stay true to their recent form, a pitcher's duel will break out in Milwaukee, but it's hard to bet against the Brewers coming up with a few big hitsas they did in Game 1. Dodgers Trusting Kershaw To Earn Commanding LeadThe Dodgers possess an embarrassment of riches on the mound. After Hyun-Jin Ryu tossed seven shutout innings in Game 1, the Dodgers trot out Clayton Kershaw to the bump for Game 2.During the Dodgers' run to the World Series a year ago http://www.yankeesfanproshop.com/authentic-giancarlo-stanton-jersey , Kershaw corrected the negative narrative surrounding his postseason performance.Kershaw won three of his first four postseason starts in 2017, and in those victories, he conceded six earned runs over 19.1 innings.Ross D. Franklin/Associated PressThe southpaw has also achieved plenty of success against Atlanta in his career, as he boasts a 4-0 record and 1.43 ERA in 10 starts versus the Braves. There's a good chance Kershaw spends as long as Ryu on the mound in Game 2, as he's lasted at least six innings in all but one of his starts since July. The one glimmer of hope the Braves have entering Game 2 comes from the amount of home runs Kershaw has given up over the last month.Six of the 17 home runs Kershaw conceded during the regular season came in September, but he didn't give up a home run as one of his five earned runs conceded Saturday against Arizona. If the Braves can take advantage of a mistake or two by Kershaw early in Game 2, they could provide themselves with a needed confidence boost on the road.Even if the Braves rough up Kershaw for a run or two, their pitching staff must keep the Dodgers' offense at bay Dellin Betances Jersey , which is no easy task.Expect Game 2 at Dodger Stadium to be more competitive than Game 1, but the Dodgers will find a way to pull away in the middle innings, as the middle of their order comes up with a few run-scoring hits in clutch situations.Follow Joe on Twitter, JTansey90Statistics obtained from Baseball Reference

MIAMI — Wei-Yin Chen will make his final home start of the season Friday in a year in which he has been dominant at Marlins Park.Chen http://www.diamondbacksfanproshop.com/authentic-fernando-rodney-jersey , a Miami Marlins left-hander, is 5-3 with a 1.77 ERA at home this season. Batters are hitting .190 with five homers against him at Marlins Park, where he has also struck out 66 in 71 innings. On the road, Chen has been brutal – 1-8 with a 9.29 ERA and 14 homers allowed.Article continues below ...Chen’s counterpart Friday will be former Marlins right-hander Luis Castillo (10-12, 4.52 ERA).Castillo’s average fastball checks in at 95.8 mph, and he has reached 100 with his heater. Even so, the Marlins traded him twice during his days as a prospect. The first deal — to the San Diego Padres — fell through because of an injury to another player.Team executives finally dealt Castillo, who beat the Marlins on July 30, 2017 http://www.metsfanproshop.com/authentic-todd-frazier-jersey , which stands as the only time he has faced Miami. In that 2017 game at Marlins Park, Castillo was brilliant, striking out six in eight innings while holding the Marlins to three hits, one walk and one run. He threw 106 pitches that day, including 70 for strikes. This year, Castillo has been an enigma. He was 3-8 in even-numbered months and 7-4 in odd-numbered months. In other words, he had a 7.23 ERA in April, 6.75 in June and 5.57 in August. Conversely, he has posted a 3.48 ERA in May David Wright Jersey , 2.25 in July and 1.46 in four September starts.Castillo is also 6-5 with a 3.51 ERA at home this year but 4-7 with a. 5.56 ERA on the road.Chen, who is 6-11 with a 4.93 ERA overall this season, will no doubt pitch carefully to Reds second baseman Scooter Gennett, who was dominant Thursday in Cincinnati’s 4-2 win over Miami.Gennett’s final big play of the night came with two outs and two on in the ninth as the Reds were attempting to protect their two-run cushion. Miami’s Miguel Rojas hit a smash that appeared destined to be an RBI single. However, Gennett dove to his left and made the game-ending assist from the outfield grass.“I got a good jump, dove, and the ball went in my glove,” Gennett said. “Things happen fast on the field. I don’t try to dive and slam my head on the ground unless I feel I have a good chance of getting the ball.”Reds interim manager Jim Riggleman said he was “amazed” by the play.“That ball is a hit on most days,” Riggleman said. “Scooter made a great play.”Beside his defense http://www.metsfanproshop.com/authentic-zack-wheeler-jersey , Gennett also hit a two-run homer and a two-run double, driving in all four Cincinnati runs.He went 2-for-3 on Thursday, raising his batting average to .318.Gennett is chasing the National League batting title and trails only Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich, who is hitting .319.Meanwhile, Miami (59-93), which has the worst record in the NL, was held to seven hits Thursday – six singles and one double. The Reds, who are in last place in the NL Central, are 66-88. Minnesota will use the “opener” strategy with its pitchers for the first time this season when left-handed reliever Gabriel Moya is expected to start for the Twins against the Texas Rangers on Sunday Mookie Wilson Jersey , following a practice began in May by Tampa Bay and utilized by a handful of other major league teams this year.Right-hander Zack Littell will be recalled from Triple-A Rochester to serve as what Minnesota manager Paul Molitor has dubbed the Twins’ “primary pitcher” after Moya. The Rangers will counter with left-hander Yohander Mendez (0-1, 14.73 ERA) as their starter in the rubber game of the series at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas.Article continues below ...Texas hit four homers to beat Minnesota 7-4 on Saturday to snap a five-game losing streak. Rookie Ronald Guzman hit a three-run homer while Nomar Marzara, Adrian Beltre and Rougned Odor hit solo homers. The Twins have been utilizing the “opener” strategy for months at both the Double-A and Triple-A levels. Minnesota decided to push back right-hander Kyle Gibson’s start to Monday in Houston to try the strategy because the Rangers have a left-handed top of their batting order. The “opener” is employed to keep the game’s primary pitcher from facing the top of the lineup early and to be limited to two times through the order.“You don’t want to do it on a whim,” Twins manager Paul Molitor told MLB.com. “There’s always going to be a risk, and then you try to decide in the game when it’s worthwhile to try to find out if this is something that’s going to be helpful to help your team win. You’re looking for an advantage.”The Rangers activated pitcher Bartolo Colon off the disabled list Saturday, but then scratched him from Sunday’s start against the Twins because of a stomach virus. Colon hasn’t pitched since Aug. 20 because of stiffness in his back. The 45-year-old is a free agent after this season. The 23-year-old Mendez is set to be recalled Sunday to make his second start and third appearance of 2018. He has never faced Minnesota.Mendez is being brought back to the big leagues for the first time since June 19, when he was demoted to Class A after violating team rules in Kansas City.“He took the challenges with the right attitude, went back down http://www.metsfanproshop.com/authentic-lenny-dykstra-jersey , and he’s going to get an opportunity to come back up tomorrow and start for us,” Texas manager Jeff Banister said of Mendez. The Rangers are satisfied that Mendez has done everything asked of him since the demotion.“Reports I got were that he worked his rear end off, physically and mentally, and took all the challenges and met all of them, even when they were a little bit tough,” Banister said. “The thing that I like about our coaching staff and this organization is that things like that happen. (But if) you go do your work, you’re given that opportunity to clean that slate, go do what you need to do.”Mendez exited his last start for Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday at home against Memphis after two innings when he was struck on his left arm by a batted ball. He is expected to be fully healthy for Sunday’s start.

On April 9th Youth Ronald Leary Jersey , 2018, I published a Horse Tracks article that detailed how Steve Atwater stacked up against other safeties/defensive backs already enshrined in the Hall of Fame. With just days to go before official selection takes place, I present you with that article once again. ***Could you tell the story of the NFL without mentioning the player’s impact on the game? This seems to be the rule-of-thumb that everybody who debates Pro Football Hall of Fame eligibility turns to when it comes to players. Has it always been this way? If you look at the history of the Hall of Fame, you’ll notice a bunch of names among the shining stars that you’ve most likely never heard of. In 1963, the Hall of Fame’s inaugural class consisted of 17 enshrinees. From Jim Thorpe to Sammy Baugh, there are plenty of recognizable names. But as the years go forward, there are names I’ve never heard of and I began to wonder... Could the NFL’s story be told without some of these people? Surely, there had to be someone not nearly as qualified as the Broncos’ own Steve Atwater and his candidacy for enshrinement. After these past frustrating years of Atwater not breaking through, there has to be someone fans could point out and say, “See?! If this guy got in, then why the heck isn’t Steve in?”It turns out that at the safety/defensive back positions there were only three names I didn’t recognize - Emlen Tunnell, Willie Wood and Yale Lary. Just who are these guys that got the nod while Atwater waits?Who is Emlen Tunnell?I was more than a little embarrassed that I didn’t know about Emlen Tunnell. He is without a doubt someone who left a mark on the game we all love. To quote his wikipedia page:Although he was by no means the first African American to play in the NFL, to break a color barrier at the time he did, was no small feat. Major League Baseball’s Jackie Robinson had only made his debut for the Brooklyn Dodgers the year before Tunnell’s career with the Giants began. The amount of racial prejudice and bigotry he must have endured just to suit up had to be immense...and to put up record-breaking stats like he did is nothing short of Hall of Fame-worthy. How does Atwater stack up? Atwater’s 24 interceptions, 408 return yards, and complete disinterest in the punting game doesn’t speak to a lack of qualifications on Steve’s part. It speaks to how incredible Emlen Tunnell’s career really was. It’s a travesty he’s not better known today.Who is Willie Wood? Via his Wikipedia page. How does Woods look compared to Steve Atwater?Atwater was voted First-team All-Pro in 1991 and 1992, was a Second-Team All-Pro in 1996, and was UPI First Team All-AFC in 1993 and 1995. While Wood’s honors are indeed impressive, most were from a pre-AFL/NFL merger NFL.At most there were just 16 teams to draw these accolades from until 1970 when the merger was officially complete. After the merger http://www.authenticsdenverbroncos.com/cheap-royce-freeman-jersey , there were no All-Pro considerations for Wood. It’s needs to be said that Steve Atwater had to garner his recognition with at most 31 teams competing in the pool.Atwater went to eight Pro Bowls and was a member of the 1990s all decade team. Like Wood, Atwater won two Super Bowls. I know it drives our old school NFC friends a little crazy when we don’t weigh their pre-merger NFL Championships as heavily as we do Super Bowls, but let’s be honest... With only 13 teams in the NFL during Wood’s rookie year, how could a team not win championships more often? When it comes to league recognition and championships (that matter), Steve Atwater is right there with Willie Wood.Who is Yale Lary? Now for the last name I didn’t recognize on the Hall of Fame enshrinement rosters at safety - Yale Lary. Via his wikipedia page. Like with Wood, Lary played in an era of markedly fewer NFL franchises. In fact, when Lary came into the league his rookie year, there were just 12 NFL teams and one of them was the Dallas Texans in their first failed iteration. That’s not to take away from his accomplishments on the field. His stats are no joke and he is indeed worthy of his place of honor in Canton. Also like with Wood, Atwater’s Pro Bowl appearances and league recognition are on par with what Lary did. It’s tough to compare championships between the two since winning the AFC during Atwater’s career was much more difficult than winning all of the NFL in Lary’s time. I’m going to swing out and say that the stones in Atwater’s Super Bowl XXXII and XXXIII rings out number the stones in the Lions 1952, 1953, and 1957 combined championship rings for a reason. So what did we learn? We learned that even though I had never heard of these three men, they were in no way not deserving of their enduring recognition at the Professional Football Hall of Fame. What’s more, I learned that Steve Atwater checks all the same boxes when it comes to qualifying for enshrinement. Not only that, you can’t tell the story of the NFL without Atwater knocking Nigerian Nightmare square on his fanny. The Denver Broncos started the game with a pick six and kept on scoring from there until the final was 45-10 on the road against the Arizona Cardinals. The team, and fans, needed a win like this. Something to show everyone that this team can be a complete team and dominate from start to finish. It proves that the defense can still be elite, getting back to the basics and giving up just 154 yards passing and 69 yards rushing. Smothering Jose Rosen to the tune of six sacks, three interceptions and two forced fumbles. Predictably, a good chunk of game balls are going the defenses way for this one.Von MillerVon Miller for the first time I can remember talked trash leading into a game. Take notice White Emmanuel Sanders Jersey , NFL: Von Miller backs up his talk. He had a sublime game with 4 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, and 4 quarterback hits. He was absolutely possessed with being a dominant force against an inferior opponent (regardless of what side he lined up against). He said post game he did this for his brothers and for Bronco fans. On behalf of Broncos Country, Thank you, Von. - SadaraineBradley ChubbAfter a relatively quiet first five weeks of his NFL career, Bradley Chubb just announced his presence to the entire NFL. Five sacks in two games with a beautiful forced fumble to top it off is about as good of a week as you can hope for as an edge rusher in the NFL. Chubb is emerging as the bookend pass rusher we needed to let Von be his best Von. Arizona had no answer for them tonight, and that’s exactly as it should be. - Taylor KotheEmmanuel SandersEmmanuel Sanders followed up last week’s costly taunting penalty with a game for the ages - throwing a 28-yard touchdown pass to Courtland Sutton after a lateral from Case Keenum and then catching a 64-yard touchdown down the seam that he capped with a signature front flip into the end zone - making him the first wide receiver in team history (9th player overall) to throw, catch and run for a touchdown in the same season.Sanders, who finished his day 6 of 7 for 102 yards, became the fourth player in team history - first since John Elway versus Raiders (Sept. 7, 1986) - to catch and throw a touchdown in the same game. Safe to say that if Von is the fire for the defense, Sanders owns that role for the offense. - Laurie Lattimore-VolkmannGarett BollesGarett Bolles has had a rough go of it this season so far, but tonight he played a clean game no penalties, and against a rusher in Chandler Jones who has been one of the best in the league at generating pressure in the backfield. It may not seem like a huge deal that a lineman didn’t get any penalties, but for the most penalized lineman in the league, that deserves a gameball. Make it two, Bolles. - Jeff EssaryTodd DavisThe Broncos middle linebacker played the best game of his NFL career on Thursday. Davis led the Broncos with 10 tackles Youth Brandon McManus Jersey , six solo and one for loss. He also had two passes defended and a pick-six (his first career interception and touchdown). More importantly, he showed that Denver does have middle linebackers and a rush defense. The fact the Broncos held Arizona to under 100 yards rushing is a small miracle after the last two games. - Ian St. ClairBrandon McManusBrandon McManus continues to kick well for the Broncos. Against the Cardinals he was perfect on all 6 of his extra points. His line field goal was good from 41, and he has clearly turned things around from his down year in 2017. McManus is McMoney. - Adam MalnatiPhillip LindsayPhillip Lindsay is a man possessed. Its as if he’s unlocked cheat codes on the field. Before his final 4 carries which he gained little to no yards as the Cardinals simply tried to stop the obvious, he was averaging almost 10 yards per carry with a touchdown! That’s ridiculous! Lindsay is carving out a starting spot on this team with more and more carries. Not only that, but the national media is forced to pay attention to him when he plays. Each time he touches the ball, all I ever do is just shake my head as to the magic that he performs and ask myself “why does he ever come off the field? Even for Freeman?” This cat is a true RB1. Don’t let his size pigeon hole him. He’s a baller and like he was in college, he just won’t be denied! - Pete BaronBradley RobyBradley Roby had a pretty bad couple of weeks, but he came into this game ready to make a statement. He played perfect technique, got his head turned and made some big time plays throughout this game. This was exactly the kind of game he needed to prove to himself that he can play at a high level after getting burned frequently in recent weeks. It was nice to see him rebound. - Tim LynchChris Harris Jr.There’s nothing more exciting on defense than big plays, and Chris Harris delivered in his 100th career start. His 53 yard pick six crushed the Cardinals’ spirits and pretty much sealed the game. The NFL’s worst offense was never coming back from 21-3. Harris is one of the best cornerbacks the Broncos have ever boasted. He’s the epitome of the idea that any player can excel, even dominate, by way of intensive discipline, study, and hard work. His pick six tonight is the highlight of the year so far for the Broncos’ secondary. Have yourself a day, Strap Harris! - Taylor KotheWho gets your game ball for this game?

Three-of-three catches. 61 yards. 20 yard-per-catch average. A 31-yard play.On any other Sunday those would be nice wide receiver stats for Demaryius Thomas at Mile High.Except this time Thomas was No. 87 for the Houston Texans - and no longer No. 88 for the Denver Broncos.Traded to the Texans on Tuesday Womens Justin Simmons Jersey , the wide receiver returned to his home stadium in the visitor’s locker room, wearing the visiting team’s jersey.“It’s been weird and just different,” Thomas said after the game. “Coming out of a different tunnel I’ve never come out of, being in a locker room that I’ve never been in, in the past eight or nine years. Seeing my guys warm up, seeing the guys come over and speak to me differently.”And even though Thomas’ new team got the close win and maintained it's runat the playoffs with a 6-3 record, the wide receiver just wanted to get off the field and get the game behind him.“I think that was the fastest I ran all day,” he said. “I ran inside. We got that ‘W’ and I was excited.”But his voice didn’t exude typical excitement for a victory. Thomas was happy to contribute to his new team after just three days of practice, but his infectious smile seemed far more genuine when greeting Peyton Manning’s children after the game than talking about the victory.“It was tough man, it was tough,” he said. “Throughout the week it was tough, it was tough throughout the week. I just wanted to make sure I could go out, play, and help my guys because I know the coaches were looking for that. I did what I had to do to try and get on the field and play my best ball.”Thomas was targeted early in the Texans’ first drive, and he came through big immediately - with 31- and 18-yard catches to highlight an easy Texans drive capped off with a Jordan Thomas touchdown.Though he made a few mistakes and got a little extra direction from his new quarterback Deshaun Watson, DT’s presence was known as the Broncos realized early they would have to account for him.“Very badly. I wanted to win badly, not for just me, but for the guys that have been working hard that won five in a row,” he said, adding that he was relieved his mistakes - especially a false start on a fourth-quarter third-down, didn’t cost his new team the win.“I messed up a couple of times, I felt like it would have been on me if we didn’t get this W, especially at those times because it was third down and that was big,” Thomas added. “We came out, guys kept fighting Authentic Case Keenum Jersey , nobody pointed fingers, that play was over and we went to the next.”Thomas was grateful for his new teammates and the trust they had in him to deliver, but he told the team before the game he didn’t want it to be about him coming back to Mile High. It was about the Texans.“I was like ‘let’s do it for the Houston Texans. Not me.’ I don’t want anybody to change their game; I don’t want anybody to think differently,” he said. “It’s not about me because I’ve been on one squad and finally playing the squad for the first game that I changed to, it’s about the Houston Texans. It’s about going out and getting that win, getting six in a row and putting ourselves in a good position for a playoff run.”The Broncos honored DT before the game with a short video tribute to the wide receiver drafted by the Broncos in 2010 and a franchise leader in multiple categories, including receiving yards in a season (1,619 in 2014), touchdowns in a season (14 in 2013), 100+ yard games in his career (34) in a season (10 in 2014) and in the playoffs (3, tied with Vance Johnson). For fans it was a nice goodbye - even if hard to see Thomas in a new number and jersey. But for DT, it was obvious the now former Broncos wideout was already trying to move on.“It was good, I was thankful for [the tribute], but at the end of the day I was trying to do my best and do whatever I had to do to get this ‘W,’” he said, adding that he was a little nervous after messing up on two plays before his catches. “The good thing is they don’t blame over here, which is good. That tells you they have a good group of guys, a championship team and it’s just the small things you have to fix and we’ll be better.”The good news for Broncos fans who love No. 88, Demaryius Thomas is on a playoff-contending team. It’s just not for the home team anymore.Broncos’ No. 1 offense big winner in first joint practice Day 13 of Broncos’ training camp featured the first of two joint practices with the Chicago Bears, and by the most important measures, it was a success - no brawls and no serious injuries.“It was a lot better than I expected it to be, honestly,” said guard Ron Leary. “It’s the first joint practice I’ve been a part of and there wasn’t a brawl. That’s a good thing. I think there are just pros out here that are just trying to work and get better.”And on a few other measures, it was also a great day for the more than 4,000 fans on hand for the final public practice of training camp.Mostly because Emmanuel Sanders put on a show.First-team offense ‘sharp’ against Bears’ best DDuring one-on-one drills http://www.denverbroncosteamonline.com/brandon-marshall-jersey , the Case Keenum-Emmanuel Sanders connection had Bears’ cornerback Kyle Fuller befuddled all day long. But Keenum wasn’t content with just Sanders. He threw - and completed - to a host of receivers, including Demaryius Thomas, De’Angelo Henderson, Jeff Heuerman, Phillip Lindsay and Tim Patrick.Ryan Koenigsburg of BSN Denver described the first two plays of the 11-on-11 period for the Broncos’ No. 1 offense:“I will take away a lot,” Keenum said of his day on the field. “I think we communicated well. There’s still some things pre-snap I want to hammer down. I need to get better with that offensive line. Some different miscommunications and things like that. It’s on my plate, it’s on me. Then we’ll watch the film—I need to go watch the film—and see what we can get better at.”Vance Joseph was also happy with his first-string offense, calling his quarterback “sharp” - a nice rebound from the weekend’s dismal showing by the unit. For his part, Keenum definitely seemed to take Saturday’s lackluster performance to heart - making sure the first-team offense did not pick up where it left off against the Vikings.“I think for me, the best part of adversity, the best part of not playing well is being able to get back out there and bounce back,” he said. “That’s what so tough about going those two series, is that we never had a chance to bounce back on Saturday. Getting out on the practice field, Monday, Tuesday, today versus these guys, I think it showed that we can bounce back, and I’m proud of the way we responded.”The offensive line even drew some praise.“I think they’re in a great spot. I think they’re playing well together as five. ...The offensive line I thought did a great job against some of those pressures that Minnesota does. And I think that we’re doing so much good stuff that, even the miscommunications that we have, we’re able to go talk about it. It’s pressures that we’re going to know like the back of our hand and in season we’re going to be able to see it, recognize it, and block it up. I think they’re doing a great job.”As for the second team offense, Chad Kelly’s performance was “up and down,” according to Joseph.“It wasn’t perfect, but he made some plays Womens Phillip Lindsay Jersey ,” Joseph said. “They’re like Chad always does. He made some nice scramble plays. It wasn’t perfect, but I was OK with his performance.”Defense ‘sharp’ ... unless pass went to a tight endIn general, the first-team defense was also highly effective - except when Mitch Trubisky threw to his tight ends, a.k.a the Achilles heel of the Broncos’ D.According to Zac Stevens of BSN Denver, once Trubisky found his first tight end in the 7-on-7 period (after not throwing a single pass in the first team period), he didn’t let up.The Bears’ second-year quarterback threw a quick pass in the middle to a tight end where Todd Davis had the coverage. From there it was just academic.Six of Trubisky’s next seven completions were also to tight ends, including a touchdown pass to Trey Burton who could not have been more wide open on his way to six points. In goal line 7-on-7 periods, Trubisky targeted tight ends four out of six times, completing all four and hauling in two touchdowns in the process. But the pressure on the quarterback was real, thanks to Von Miller - proving that even when he’s not going full-out, he’s still dangerous.Miller denied doing any holding back when he’s on the field.“No, I’m definitely trying to wreck it,” Miller said. “I think as a human being, we all struggle with consistency, and I’m the same as everybody else. ...I don’t come out here to practice with an agenda, I just try to practice hard and play. Sometimes it works in my favor and sometimes it doesn’t.”Other than the tight end coverage, Miller was also happy with how the defense stepped up.“We have to clean up our two-minute defense a little bit. We could use some improvement there. We talked about that as a defense afterwards. That’s the thing about this defense. We’re not going to let things just get swept under the rug. When there is an issue we’re going to address it, fix it and then come out and do that.”Hopefully that is also the attitude among the second string defense - which did NOT have a good day against Chicago’s second-team offense.Joseph noted that a big reason for the “terrible” performance was having “only six corners” and only “five safeties” - a few of whom just were added to the team this week.“We’re just beat up. We’re down to five safeties - guys who have played in our system. We’re beat up,” Joseph said. “That being said, we’ve got a game on Saturday and those guys have got to do their jobs.”Horse Tracks - docllv’s pick of the dayHow Su'a Cravens Fell Apart in Washington | SI.comTwo years ago he was a promising rookie with a chance to become a cornerstone player in Washington. I won’t try and paint that game as a masterpiece, but I wasn’t really all that worked up over the Seattle Seahawks needing a last-second field goal to beat an Arizona Cardinals team that will now pick first in the 2019 NFL Draft. It sure helped that the Minnesota Vikings trailed wire to wire against the Chicago Bears, but I never felt that the Seahawks were actually going to lose the game, and sure enough Youth Doug Baldwin Jersey , they found a way to win and finally beat the Cards in Seattle. The biggest thing out of all of this mess was the fact that it was a relatively injury-free game and several key players who didn’t play on Sunday will be available next week against the Dallas Cowboys.Let’s get to the final Winners and Losers of the 2018 regular season.WinnersChris Carson and Mike DavisA combined 166 rushing yards and a touchdown each for this running back duo. Carson had a career-long 61-yard run in the 3rd quarter, whereas Davis made it three touchdowns against Arizona in the two matchups.Tyler LockettLockett didn’t get a 1,000 yard season, but he did get his 10th touchdown on the year, and the big catch on the final drive to set up the winning points. What a great 2018 Lockett has had, and just imagine how much better it could get.Russell WilsonNo, 12/21 for 152 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT is not a great stat line. I don’t care. Wilson threw his 35th touchdown pass of the season, breaking his own single-season franchise record, and his 196 regular season touchdown passes separates him from Dave Krieg on the franchise all-time leaderboard. The only negative is Baker Mayfield broke his rookie single-season record for TD passes, but it was inevitable that someone would break it in this era of football.Sebastian JanikowskiHe didn’t need to make a game-winner here http://www.seahawksfootballauthentics.com/bradley-mcdougald-jersey-authentic , but he did! After enduring the failed Blair Walsh Project last year, Seabass has knocked through three buzzer-beaters, including two against the Cardinals. Well done to him!Frank Clark and Jarran ReedTwo sacks apiece! Clark finishes the regular season with 14, while Reed had a staggering 11.5. Is the Cardinals offensive line pure trash? Yes! And great pass-rushers crush bad OLs, which is what they did. Clark literally used a Cardinals OL to jar the ball loose from Josh Rosen.Jacob MartinThe fifth-round rookie has been a quality contributor, as his strip-sack put him at three sacks on the season... the same number Frank Clark had as a rookie. He’s very much a raw talent but a promising, speedy talent.Team discipline? The oft-penalized Seahawks only had one accepted penalty, a week removed from three accepted flags against the Chiefs, and two weeks before 5740 flags against the 49ers.LosersBrian Schneider and the Special Teams unit (except Seabass)Fire him. Two blocked punts is unacceptable, as is the kick coverage, as is the return game. I’ve seen enough. The special teams unit is game-losing bad Womens Jarran Reed Jersey , and against a better team, they would’ve lost it. They were directly responsible for 18 of Arizona’s 24 points. The Week 17 offensive line combinationIf there’s good news from this week’s abysmal offensive line’s performance, it’s that DJ Fluker is going to be back next week, and maybe JR Sweezy will too. It was worth a shot to see George Fant at right tackle, Germain Ifedi at right guard, and Ethan Pocic at left guard... I do not want to see it again. Pocic in particular was poor and for now, seems to lack the strength to be an NFL guard. Russell Wilson was sacked six times and the run game was not particularly effective outside of Chris Carson’s 61-yard run and Mike Davis’ touchdown. David MooreThat interception sure looked a hell of a lot like a famous play in which a Seahawks WR wearing #83 got outmuscled and outpositioned on a pick play, didn’t it? Targets to Moore from Wilson yielded a mark of 2/4 for 16 yards, 1 first-down, and 1 INT. I said it earlier this week that Moore is coming back down to earth, but right now he’s a liability Youth Shaquem Griffin Jersey , and that pick is on him.The hands of Seahawks DBsSeattle only had 12 interceptions this season, and none from the defensive backs for the whole of December. Justin Coleman and Bradley McDougald both dropped gimme picks. Sam Rosen and Brady QuinnI knew we were in for a rough broadcast when Rosen introduced Quinn as “the outstanding quarterback.” Rosen bizarrely called Josh Rosen (no relation) “Wilson” multiple times, and misidentified Chris Carson as “DJ McKissic” in a remarkable double fail. Oh yes, and we had another “Rashaad Perry” moment. Quinn got in on the act by saying Jacob Martin’s sack was the first of his career... nope.Granted, some of you probably still would rather hear this commentary crew over Joe Buck and Troy Aikman if you were given a choice of one of the two.Final NotesAkeem King as extra DB has been a pleasant surprise. I didn’t see much good out of him in preseason but he’s really been shining in his limited role.King might have been at fault for Larry Fitzgerald’s touchdown, but I don’t care. We might have seen Fitz’s final NFL game and he made a one-handed catch look ridiculously easy. If this is the end, it’s been a blast watching you play, and you certainly deserved so much better than the carousel of bad teams you’ve played on over the years. What was up with the drops? Doug Baldwin had two, Nick Vannett had one, Mike Davis had one.Bring on the Cowboys.
