franchise record with a ninth straight win on Sunday https://www.brownsfanshop.com/Emmanuel-Ogbah-Jersey , J.J. Watt was asked to reflect on how far the team has come in the past year.“I was on the couch a year ago so this is a lot better,” said Watt, who missed the last 11 games of Houston’s 4-12 2017 season with a broken leg. “I was in a lot of pain. So it’s good for us to be winning …this is what it’s supposed to feel like. Honestly this is how you dream it up.”Deshaun Watson threw a touchdown pass and the Texans intercepted rookie Baker Mayfield three times, returning one for a score, to get the 29-13 victory over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday that extended the streak.Article continues below ...The Texans (9-3), who opened the season 0-3, haven’t lost since Sept. 23 to take a commanding lead atop the AFC South. While they appreciate what they’ve done to turn things around, they’re quick to note that they still have plenty of work left to do.“It means a lot especially from where we came from 0-3 … but it’s not the Super Bowl so we’re still fighting,” receiver DeAndre Hopkins said.Houston raced out to a 23-0 halftime lead and added two second-half field goals by Ka’imi Fairbairn to give him five on Sunday.Mayfield, the top overall pick in this year’s draft, had his worst game of the season, throwing three interceptions for the first time since he was a freshman at Texas Tech in 2013. He entered the game having thrown nine touchdown passes with just one interception in the past three games as the Browns (4-7-1) won consecutive games for the first time since 2014.Mayfield lamented the mistakes he made in this one.“(If) I would’ve taken care of the ball Denzel Ward Jersey , this game would’ve been very close,” he said.He finished with 397 yards passing and had a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter after throwing a career-best four in a win over the Bengals last week. Houston’s fearsome pass rush, led by Watt and Jadeveon Clowney didn’t sack Mayfield, but they hurried and harassed him for much of the day.His interceptions all came before halftime to help the Texans build the big early lead.“He probably wasn’t feeling too dangerous in the first half, but he was feeling a little more dangerous in the second half,” Watt said.Houston was up 3-0 after an early field goal when Watson, who finished with 224 yards, connected with rookie Jordan Thomas on an 11-yard touchdown pass. Hopkins set up that score when he made a 24-yard reception after T.J. Carrie grabbed his dreadlocks in an attempt to slow him down two plays earlier.Zach Cunningham made it 17-0 when he grabbed his first career interception and ran 38 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. Officials first ruled him down at the 1, but the play was reviewed and changed to a touchdown.Kareem Jackson was called for a 47-yard pass interference penalty on Cleveland’s next drive to put the Browns at their 20. But Mayfield threw another interception two plays later and it was returned 18 yards by Johnathan Joseph.Houston added another field goal to make it 20-0 with about three minutes left in the second quarter.Mayfield’s third interception came late in the second quarter when Andre Hal grabbed the ball in the end zone.Lamar Miller had 103 yards rushing for his second straight 100-yard game and fourth of the season and Hopkins had seven receptions for 91 yards.Cleveland continued to struggle in late-season games, and the Browns fell to 9-39 in December and January games since 2008.Nick Chubb got the Browns on the board in the third quarter when his 2-yard TD run cut the lead to 23-7 with about 9½ minutes left. Rashard Higgins had a 17-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter, but the 2-point conversion failed to leave the Browns down 29-13.Houston added another field goal after that before a mistake-filled possession by the Browns. First Mayfield threw what looked to be a 76-yard touchdown pass to rookie Antonio Callaway, but it was brought back because of a holding penalty by left tackle Greg Robinson. Two plays later Trevon Coley Color Rush Jersey , Mayfield connected with Callaway again and he gained 71 yards before rookie Justin Reid chased him down from behind and knocked the ball out of his hands just before he would have scored. It bounced into the end zone where it was recovered by the Texans.“It was just trying to make something happen,” Reid said. “I didn’t want him to score so just make a play on the ball and see if it would come out. Good thing for us it did.”INJURIESCleveland cornerback Denzel Ward left in the first half with a concussion. … Browns defensive lineman Larry Ogunjobi injured his biceps in the second quarter and didn’t return. … Joseph didn’t return after injuring his neck in the second quarter. … LB Brennan Scarlett injured his leg and didn’t return. … Houston offensive tackle Kendall Lamm left in the second half with a concussion.REMEMBERING PRESIDENT BUSHThe Texans observed a moment of silence before the game for former President George H.W. Bush, who died on Friday night in Houston at 94. Bush was a frequent visitor to Houston’s games and had participated in the coin toss at several contests. During the moment of silence pictures of Bush at various games were shown on the video screens flanked by huge 41’s made out of a collage of pictures as a further tribute to the nation’s 41st president.UP NEXTBrowns: Host the Panthers next Sunday.Texans: Host the Colts next Sunday. CLEVELAND (AP) — The Browns will get to show Gerald McCoy how far they’ve come. The free-agent defensive tackle, released earlier this week by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, will visit Cleveland on Friday. General manager John Dorsey said the meeting will be an opportunity for both sides to see if they want a future together.“It’s a chance for us to kind of get a chance to meet each other one on one, and let’s find out who Gerald is,” Dorsey said Thursday during a downtown celebration for Cleveland’s selection by the NFL to host the 2021 draft. “It also gives Gerald a chance to see who the Cleveland Browns are and what direction we’re headed.”A six-time Pro Bowler, McCoy was let go after the Bucs couldn’t find a trade partner willing to take on his $13 million salary. They agreed to terms with Ndamukong Suh to take his spot.Several other teams have expressed interest in McCoy, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2010 draft. The 31-year-old had a down year — by his standards — in 2018, but Dorsey believes McCoy isn’t close to being finished.“With regards to his ability to play the game of football, he can still play the game of football,” Dorsey said.Dorsey downplayed the significance of McCoy agreeing to meet with the Browns https://www.brownsfanshop.com/Duke-Johnson-Jersey , who have major expectations in 2019 following an offseason in which the team added star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson, and edge rusher Olivier Vernon.“We’re going to turn over every rock and let’s just see what happens,” Dorsey said. “I mean, it’s just a visit.”But the idea of adding McCoy to a defensive line rotation that already includes Pro Bowler Myles Garrett, Richardson, Vernon and Larry Ogunjobi, has Browns fans even more excited.McCoy had six sacks in 14 games last season and has 54 ½ in 123 career games.During his visit, he’ll get to meet new Cleveland coach Freddie Kitchens as well as coordinator Steve Wilks. He’s already familiar with Browns offensive coordinator Todd Monken, who spent three seasons in Tampa and speaks highly of McCoy.“I think a lot of Gerald,” Monken said following Wednesday’s practice. “Gerald has had a tremendous career and was an outstanding football player for us. He’s a great person.”
In Week Four of the 2018 season Rashan Gary Jersey , the Vikings and Rams had an exciting, high-scoring Thursday night game that went down to the final moments. In Week Four of the 2019 season, the Eagles and Packers had a similar experience. The difference? This year’s game generated an 18-percent increase in viewership. As apple-to-apple comparisons go, that’s very good news for the NFL: Exciting games, national platforms, exactly 52 weeks apart, and an 18-percent jump in ratings.Via FOX Sports P.R., the Eagles-Packers game generated an overnight rating of 12, with a share of 23.6. Last year’s game in the same window attracted a 10.7 and 19, respectively. The numbers from Thursday night mean that 12 percent of homes with TVs watched last night’s game, and that 23.6 percent of homes with TVs that actually had the TVs turned on were watching the game.It was the first l game of the year televised on broadcast TV, and it represents the best broadcast-package debut since 2015. Which is the year the league’s ratings peaked before politics and other issues caused the numbers to dip.The momentum gives the NFL a boost as the league prepares to embark on negotiations for its various TV deals. That’s something the league plans to do once the labor deal is finalized.Which explains why the NFL wants to get the labor deal finalized. By next year, when another presidential election is looming, the TV ratings could take another step backward. A sterling defensive performance against the worst offense in the NFL won’t make the top of any sports highlights show or lead sports talk radio. But what Za’Darius Smith has done this season can’t be ignored and, with the help of Mike Pettine, the Green Bay Packers’ new outside linebacker has a chance to elevate this defense to new levels in a Super Bowl run. The Smith Brothers became a fun story this offseason when Green Bay signed not one, but both Preston and Za’Darius Smith: a pair of talented outside linebackers, neither of whom were ever putting up gaudy sack numbers. The dollar figures involved turned heads and drew the criticism of plenty of informed observers. Unequivocally, they have been worth the money. Za’Darius immediately transformed into a leader on this team, not just for young outside ‘backers like Rashan Gary, but as a cultural voice on the team. The energy and tone of this team fundamentally changed thanks to Matt LaFleur and players like Big Z. Maybe that couldn’t happen if he doesn’t start kicking ass and taking names in training camp. He was beating David Bakhtiari and Bryan Bulaga in 1-on-1 pass rush reps, and even in team drills, no one could block him, a harbinger of things to come over the course of the season. Right now Vince Biegel Color Rush Jersey , Smith leads the league in pressure rate according to Pro Football Focus’ charting numbers, and he has been the fourth-most productive edge rusher at getting after the quarterback since 2015. He’s not just good for a free-agent signing, or good for a Packers pass rusher relative to the guys they’ve had recently — he’s recent history good. Before this stretch against bad teams, we already knew Smith had that ability; he’s been wrecking games since Week 1. But Pettine made a subtle adjustment since the calendar moved to December, deploying Smith as a rover. On the first series against the Giants, he played first and second down as a defensive end with his hand in the dirt. On third down, he slid inside where he could rush alongside Kenny Clark, who is back to playing like a Pro Bowler, with Preston Smith on the edge next to Kyler Fackrell. On the first possession, Z rushed with his hand down, while on the second he was a stand-up rusher inside. These four-man pressures and their success make it easier for Pettine to play coverage and not have to risk busted assignments by sending blitzers. A four-man rush got home consistently against New York and Washington, and although that’s not a formula that will work every drive, it’s an arrow in Pettine’s quiver few other teams have. The scariest playoff teams though, the 49ers, Saints, and Vikings, can all pressure with four. Pettine took Smith’s superlative versatility and added a facet against Washington. On the first drive, Za’Darius destroyed Ereck Flowers for a sack to kill the drive from inside. The next drive, on the very first play, Pettine brought pressure with Adrian Amos, dropping Preston Smith in coverage. Dwayne Haskins never saw it and Amos came free for the sack. Za’Darius played his usual outside linebacker position, drawing the attention of both the right tackle and the tight end, and allowing Amos to sneak free. This aggressiveness on early downs paid off, consistently getting Washington into 3rd-and-long situations where the Packers could go back to that four-man rush look. Even on 3rd-and-short https://www.thepackersfanshop.com/Antonio-Morrison-Jersey , Pettine can use a four-man rush with Za’Darius playing inside and using Blake Martinez to feint a blitz. With Clark, the Smith Bros., and Fackrell on the field, it’s hard enough to block that four. Even harder whan they think Martinez might be coming too. Pettine decided he really wanted to make life miserable for the Washington offense, so he made them have to worry about where Za’Darius would be coming from, allowing him to roam pre-snap and fire upfield at the last second, before the offensive line has a chance to set assignments. This adds a fascinating wrinkle as it’s not actually a blitz. Smith was always going to rush, but the scheme worked effectively because of the late movement and his preternatural power. Deploying Smith this way on early downs, even in a likely run situation makes this a de facto run blitz, but without having to worry about smaller personnel getting swallowed up and killing gap responsibilities. Smith played just 26 of his 59 snaps against Washington at his usual right outside linebacker position. Moving him around, even on early downs, to attack run lanes and disrupt in the backfield represents the next step on his evolution as an All-Pro player. Green Bay’s third-down defense struggles in large part due to allowing early down successes. In fact, the Packers are last in the league in success rate on first down against the run, compared to 8th against the pass. They’re even last in success rate against the run on first and second down combined. If this wrinkle, run blitzes, pressure packages, and Za’Darius Smith as a rover provide a solution, it sets the Packers up to do more of what it wants to do on third down: rush four with its ferocious front and play coverage behind. Smith’s unique blend of pass rush savvy, versatility, and killer proficiency make him the perfect chess piece for a Pettine defense. If the Packers can use this formula against better teams, the defense should be able to hang in the playoffs. And as we’ve seen all season, a plan hinging on Za’Darius Smith to win is a plan with a good chance.

I think we’re both two different teams right now.“They’re coming off of a win streak and the quarterback and the running back and the receiver and the whole offense is really clicking. It’s really challenging for us to get this together, but it’s going to be a really good game. They’ve been effective certainly on the run, they’ve been effective in the pocket and with his mobility. We have our work cut out for us.”All eight teams do in a round with nothing but toss-up games. The action begins with the two AFC South teams meeting in Houston on Saturday afternoon. The scene shifts north and west in Texas to Dallas for the prime-timer between the Seahawks and Cowboys. On Sunday, the Chargers come across the country to Baltimore, then defending champion Philadelphia is at Chicago.Awaiting the results are top seeds Kansas City (AFC) and New Orleans (NFC), plus No. 2s New England (AFC) and the Los Angeles Rams (NFC).Indianapolis (10-6) at Houston (10-6)Way back in the first half of the season, these were struggling squads. Houston lost its first three games before reeling off a nine-game winning streak to surge to the top of the division. Indianapolis was 1-5 and has lost just once since Oct. 14, when it fell to the Jets, of all people.“It feels like we’ve been playing in the postseason for quite a while now and I don’t think anybody’s approach will change in this locker room,” Andrew Luck says. “If you’ve played five, six, seven years in this league, you’ve overcome something. So there are a lot of folks who have overcome a lot.”The Colts don’t let any defenders get to their quarterback, a stunning turnaround. Last season, which Luck missed with a right shoulder injury, Indy allowed 56 sacks, most in the league. In 2018 with Luck: 18, an NFL low.Indy also has two sensational rookies in linebacker Darius Leonard , who had 163 tackles, and guard Quenton Nelson .Neither team allowed a 100-yard rusher in 2018. Texans DE J.J. Watt , who along with Luck is a leading contender for Comeback Player of the Year, had an AFC-leading 16 sacks, 25 quarterback hits, 18 tackles for losses and forced a career-high seven fumbles Steve Largent Color Rush Jersey , which tied for most in the NFL.“To be able to get back to the top level of the game and know that I still have things to improve on and things that I want to get even better at, it’s exciting,” Watt says.Seattle (10-6) at Dallas (10-6)The Seahawks’ 24-13 win vs. the Cowboys got them back on track on their way to an unexpected playoff berth in a rebuilding year. Seattle’s the first team with a 1,000-yard rusher (Chris Carson) and three men with at least 300 yards on the ground since the 2001 Steelers, and led the NFL in rushing. The Seahawks also led the NFL with a plus-15 turnover margin; their 11 giveaways tied for third fewest in league history. But Dallas, which has lost three straight to Seattle, with one touchdown scored in total, was 7-1 at home this season. It also will run the ball first with Ezekiel Elliott.“I just think over the course of the early part of the season, we learned a lot,” coach Jason Garrett says. “We learned a lot of things from the experiences we’re having and I think we’ve grown. Guys have played more, they’ve played more together, and I think we’ve benefited from that.”Los Angeles Chargers (12-4) at Baltimore (10-6)Two weeks ago, the visiting Ravens beat LA and moved atop the AFC North, which they then clinched last Sunday. Now comes a redux, and the Chargers will have top running back Melvin Gordon back, a real boost. They will need a balanced offense, with Gordon’s running complementing the passing of Philip Rivers, and a defense that can solve the speed and moves of Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson. Since Jackson replaced an injured Joe Flacco at quarterback, the Ravens are 6-1. Jackson and fellow rookie Gus Edwards give them a formidable running game to go with the No. 1-ranked defense in yards.“They just never let you get comfortable as an offense,” Rivers says. “It’s always something trying to keep you off-balance. “It’s going to be back and forth. There will be times where we pick everything up just right and do everything just right. There will be other times where we’re going to have to, again, manage all those things that they do so well.”Philadelphia (9-7) at Chicago (12-4)Thirty years ago, they played the “Fog Bowl” at the old Soldier Field. There isn’t a whole lot of clarity about this matchup, either. The Bears, paced by a strong version of the Monsters of the Midway Patrick Kerney Color Rush Jersey , have been the better team all year. But they are generally playoff newbies, and they face perhaps the most resilient team in the league.Philly has been ravaged by injuries, yet here it is, making big plays on both sides of the ball thanks greatly to the veterans who had such a big role in its roll to the title a year ago: Nick Foles, Zack Ertz, Lane Johnson, Fletcher Cox, Malcolm Jenkins. The Eagles still have to produce on the field, but their credentials are valid.“I know how our team has really fought this last month of the season, last six weeks,” coach Doug Pederson says. “And it does give you a little comfort knowing that we’ve kind of went through this grind and we’re here now and we have to continue to grind and continue to work.“But I don’t think it’s any easier. It’s a different team again. Different set of circumstances. We have to travel. If we’re fortunate to win, we have to be on the road again. It feels different, but the excitement is the same.”There’s no shortage of excitement in Chicago, either. Under first-year coach Matt Nagy, the Bears have moved from last place in the usually difficult NFC North to the top.“I would say last year when we were playing good football, even though we had struggles within the team and struggles would be, you know, everything else was going haywire around us,” DT Akiem Hicks says, “but we were able to pull together and keep fighting. And there was no quit, and you saw that this year when we got into last minutes of the game and still fighting and coming up with those wins. You could tell that guys have that fight in them.”
The former G.M. of the franchise treated free agency like a ball of anthrax covered in smallpox. The new G.M. of the team Jace Sternberger Green Bay Packer , Brian Gutekunst, is embracing it.So far this week, the Packers have added defensive end Za'Darius Smith, linebacker Preston Smith, safety Adrian Amos, and offensive lineman Billy Turner. And with signing bonuses the primary device for paying out guaranteed money under each of these deals, the Packers will be paying a total of $56 million up front to these four players.Per a source with knowledge of the contracts, Za’Darius Smith gets $20 million, Preston Smith gets $16 million, Amos gets $11 million, and Turner gets $9 million. With the exception of a $1 million roster bonus paid to Amos this year, these four deals carry no other guaranteed money. This is a twist on the pay-as-you-go approach that plenty of other teams employ, consisting of guaranteed money being dumped into future years. The Packers instead will peel off the big bills early, keeping the first year cap charge low and pushing millions of cap costs into future years, with little or no guaranteed payments for the players beyond the first payment earned. After taking down the Dallas Cowboys behind a dominating ground-and-pound performance, Aaron Rodgers admitted Jace Sternberger Jersey 2019 , “I’ve accomplished a lot statistically in this league. I just want to win now.” It was a statement evincing a type of acceptance that he’d moved into another phase of his career, one where the Green Bay Packers’ defense and run game could get the job done. Yet the Rodgers we saw against the Raiders on Sunday looked a lot more like the guy he’s been most of his career, one who can slice apart defenses by sheer force of will. Rodgers surgically dissected a helpless Oakland defense en route to six total touchdowns, five through the air, and a perfect 158.3 passer rating to go with his 429 yards passing. If he wasn’t in the MVP discussion before, he’s squarely there now as he lifted the Packers to a 42-24 win and a 6-1 start. The intensity of Packers-Raiders ratcheted up even before Charles Woodson came to town, before the inactive list showed good news for the Packers receiving corps, before considering the urgency of the bye week for the Raiders or the looming trip to Kansas City for Green Bay. Patrick Mahomes dislocating his knee on Thursday night opened the door the surprising Raiders, fresh off an impressive win over the Bears in London, to announce their candidacy for AFC West leader. With the reigning MVP out at least three weeks and tough matchups with the Packers and Vikings the next two weeks, a win at Lambeau could position Jon Gruden’s team to steal their division. Oakland came out running the ball down the Packers’ throat hoping to pry open the door to the division. A bulldozing 42-yard run from the rookie rushing leader Josh Jacobs set up a field goal, presaging a long day in the trenches for Green Bay’s defense. But Aaron Rodgers, even without his No. 1 target Davante Adams, made sure to slam the door. The two-time MVP tossed three touchdown passes in the first half, leading the Packers to scores on three of their four first-half possessions en route to a 21-10 halftime lead. Rodgers didn’t complete a pass to a wide receiver until midway through the second quarter, relying on backs and tight ends to move the ball down the field. Once he did Jace Sternberger Jersey Mens , the passing game caught fire and Green Bay sliced up this suspect Raiders passing defense to the tune of 201 yards passing and a 150.3 passer rating in the first half alone. Getting the aerial attack on track came at just the right time for the Packers with Derek Carr gashing the Green Bay defense with a masterful game plan from Gruden coming off the extra week of preparation. Darren Waller in particular got free a number of times and the Raiders looked to be in position to re-take the lead down 14-10 and less than two minutes left in the first half. But on 2nd-and-goal, Carr tried to stretch the ball across the goal line and lost it in the process. The ball caromed out of bounds and after review, the officials ruled it a fumble and Packers ball. Rodgers engineered a seven-play 80 yard drive, culminating in a 37-yard touchdown to Jake Kumerow down the right sideline complete with a tip-toe act and booth review. A sure touchdown and the lead for the Raiders turned into a score the other way and an 11-point halftime lead for Green Bay. Door closed with the chain locked.Things just got silly in the second half, with the Rodgers offense rolling. On the first play of the second half, Matt LaFleur dialed up a play-action shot play to Marquez Valdes-Scantling for 59 yards to setup an eventual Rodgers scramble for the score. At that point, the Packers were inside the house laughing at the Raiders trying to get in with a 28-10 lead. After the Raiders answered with a score, Rodgers fired right back with one of his own and it became increasingly clear that Oakland simply had no answers for a quarterback on an all-time heater. Rodgers became the fifth quarterback in NFL history to have a perfect passer rating with 400+ yards on 30+ attempts and the first ever to do it with six total touchdowns. The fifth passing touchdown came on a third-down throw to Valdes-Scantling on an out route that would have picked up a first down, but MVS caught a block from Aaron Jones on the perimeter. From there the 4.3 speed turned an out into a 74-yard score and ended any last vestiges of doubt at 42-17. A late Mike Glennon toss helped the aesthetics with a 42-24 final, but the game was never in doubt in the second half. That said, Mike Pettine came into the game with an odd defensive plan, opting to play zone coverage against a Raiders offense without any legitimate threats at receiver and never put together something coherent to stop Darren Waller. Perhaps the loss of Darnell Savage looms large here and on one of the few plays Pettine played Waller with a defensive back, Kevin King picked a throw in the end zone. Green Bay’s defense, though gashed at times by Carr and this offense, accomplished something it did most of the season: play excellent situational football. The Carr fumble shouldn’t count on their ledger, but the King interception and a fourth-and-goal stop absolutely should. The Raiders had no answers for Rodgers Youth Jace Sternberger Jersey , so it didn’t much matter the defense blew coverages and missed tackles, but against a team like the Chiefs next week, that could come back to bite them. On the other hand, with Rodgers dealing like a two-time MVP, and Kansas City’s MVP out, perhaps it won’t matter. The Packers find new ways to win each week, a credit to the work LaFleur and this coaching staff have done adapting to each situation. One week it’s Aaron Jones, another it’s Aaron Rodgers, and the next it’s the defense. That’s how championship teams play and after a 6-1 start complete with a demolition of the Raiders, that’s how the Packers look as October comes to a close. Rodgers says he just wants to win. He proved on Sunday once again, he can still have as big a hand in winning as he’s ever had, no matter what the analytics say about his decline. It’s like coach who told The Athletic’s Mike Sando, “All the guys who think Rodgers dropped off don’t play him.” Take that for data.

(AP) — Over his first few months on the job as offensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings, John DeFilippo diligently worked on developing his system around the skill-position pillars he inherited and learning the strengths and weaknesses of his new players.DeFilippo also held some frank offseason conversations with head coach Mike Zimmer about how the Philadelphia Eagles so successfully attacked his scheme. This weekend Harrison Smith Jersey , those tips will finally come in handy for Zimmer and the rest of Minnesota’s defense. The Vikings visit the Eagles on Sunday in a rematch of the NFC championship game that sent them home humbled after a 38-7 defeat. DeFilippo was the quarterbacks coach for the team that went on to win the Super Bowl, earning him a ring for his trophy case and a promotion with Minnesota.Much is at stake for the Vikings (1-2-1), beyond any superficial desire for revenge. They’re already behind in what promises to be another ultra-competitive NFC playoff race. For all the proficiency that Kirk Cousins has displayed passing the ball to Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs, the Vikings have had unreliable protection in front of him and also failed to run the ball with any consistency. DeFilippo, naturally, will face another critical test of his play-calling acumen on the road in one of the most difficult stadiums for a visiting team to play in.There’s more to this game than that for him, though. The Eagles, despite only serving two years under head coach Doug Pederson, were the team that raised the 40-year-old DeFilippo’s profile as an up-and-coming head coach candidate. Pederson helped teach him the value of outside-the-box and aggressive thinking.“If you were doing your job, he let you run with it, take something and make it better,” DeFilippo said, “and that was my goal every day.”Don’t forget that Philadelphia Adam Thielen Jersey , too, is DeFilippo’s de facto hometown. He was a star quarterback at suburban Radnor High School, while his father was the athletic director at Villanova. Going to Eagles training camp or attending Monday night games at Veterans Stadium was a standout memory from his youth. Stepping inside Lincoln Financial Field will be a moving moment for DeFilippo, for sure.“I’m human. You know it will be,” DeFilippo said, adding: “Once the game starts, it’s going to be like any other game. But I have nothing but respect for everyone there in that building. Just like this building, there are some really phenomenal people.”The early returns on DeFilippo’s presence with the Vikings have produced similar sentiments.“He’s done a phenomenal job,” Thielen said. “He just loves the game of football. He wants us to do well on the field, and that goes for everybody on offense. That’s what you want in a coach. You want a guy who cares a lot about you and wants to have success as a team, not just as an offense.”
The Jets are now on a winning streak White Terrelle Pryor Sr. Jerseys , and it’s been a long time since I could say that. The real challenge comes against a decent Raiders team that has overachieved this year despite hitting the reset button just a year ago. If the Jets can show up against the Raiders, we might have something here. Either way, I see no reason to quit going bold now.Disclaimer: Bold Predictions are not realistic expectations for the game, but rather something that is unlikely to happen, yet possible. These predictions are both pro-Jets and stretch the boundaries of probability. Claiming that Sam Darnold throws a touchdown pass is not a Bold Prediction Terrelle Pryor Sr. Jerseys 2019 , nor is claiming that Sam Darnold throws 20 touchdown passes. These predictions must be within the bounds of possibility, but also highly improbable. As always, the final score prediction remains a realistic guess at the result of the game and does not relate to the Bold Predictions. Here are my five bold predictions for today’s game: The Jets score a touchdown in every quarter. The Raiders turn the ball over 5 times.Four different Jets record a sack.No Raiders player rushes for a touchdown or over 50 yards.Eight Jets record a catch and four go for over 50 yards.Final Score: Jets 17, Raiders 27And a bonus prediction: Jon Gruden screams at the refs on camera at least 5 times. On a raw, windy White Rishard Matthews Jerseys , miserable November afternoon in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the New York Jets defeated the Oakland Raiders, 34- 3.The game started out with the two teams trading field goals in a relatively uneventful first quarter. The Jets defense bent but did not break, and the offense moved the ball well but stalled when a touchdown pass was taken off the board due to a late pass interference call. The Jets dominated the action in the second quarter Rishard Matthews Jerseys 2019 , outscoring the Raiders 10 - 0 in a quarter highlighted by perhaps the finest drive of the season for the Jets offense, a 12 play, 96 yard gem. Sam Darnold was brilliant in this drive, saving a safety with a great pass for a first down while in the process of being tackled. The drive culminated in a Darnold dash for the end zone which was exhilarating, but perhaps a bit more reckless than you’d like to see on a regular basis White Avery Williamson Jerseys , as Darnold lowered his right (throwing) shoulder into a Raiders defender to bull his way into the end zone. The Jets came out in the second half and picked up right where they left off. They scored a touchdown on their first possession, highlighted by a 69 yard Darnold to Braxton Berrios connection. That gave the Jets a 20 - 3 lead and firm control of the game. On the ensuing possession the Jets defense made a great stop on fourth and inches to turn the ball over on downs in Raiders territory. The Jets proceeded to march right down the field and score on a Darnold to Robby Anderson touchdown pass to break the game wide open at 27 - 3. The first play of the ensuing Raiders drive resulted in a Jets interception for a touchdown and the rout was on. The rest of the game amounted to extended garbage time. With the win the Jets have their first winning streak of the 2019 season extended to three games. Their record improves to 4-7 on the year, with a road game against the Cincinnati Bengals on tap next week. Please leave your comments on the game below.
the Kansas City Chiefs defense Josh Gordon Jerseys 2019 , the unit gained 500 yards of offense and scored 43 points — a very good outing, and one that was necessary considering that the Chiefs’ very own offense put 40 up on the scoreboard. On Sunday, the two units will meet once again and the Patriots’ abilities to again find success will be crucial to the team punching its third Super Bowl ticket in a row.In order to get a clearer view of the upcoming matchup between New England’s offense and the Kansas City defense, we spoke with Kent Swanson who covers the Chiefs as a film analyst our sister site Arrowhead Pride. And one thing that jumped out fairly quickly is that the unit coordinated by Bob Sutton is not quite as bad as some of the rankings or its week six outing might indicate — especially against the run.“The struggles against the run have not been quite as true the last few weeks,” said Kent about a group that is ranked as the worst in the NFL against the run by advanced analytics website Football Outsiders. “They simplified some things schematically for both defensive line and linebackers. It’s been night and day, especially for linebacker Anthony Hitchens who looks more like the guy the Chiefs thought they were signing when he came over from Dallas in March.”Hitchens, who leads the Kansas City defense in tackles and is on the field for around 80% of the team’s defensive snaps, is not the only defender worth keeping an eye on this weekend: the Chiefs are also getting back linebacker Justin Houston White Jonathan Jones Jerseys , who missed the week six game due to a hamstring injury, and will also have talented pass rushers Chris Jones and Dee Ford available. So far this season, the trio combined to sack opposing quarterbacks 40.5 times.“The best, most consistent aspect of the Chiefs’ defense has been their ability to affect and bring down the quarterback,” said Kent as well. The Chiefs defense as a whole led the NFL in sacks during the regular season by taking passers down a combined 52 times, and Jones, Ford and Houston have carried the load. “Jones and edge defender Dee Ford are having career years, and Justin Houston has 11 sacks including the divisional round.”“Chris Jones has quietly been one of the best interior pass rushers in the NFL. He recorded a sack in an NFL record eleven straight games Jonathan Jones Jerseys 2019 ,” continued Kent, singling out the league’s seventh best interior defender according to Pro Football Focus. But as talented as the Chiefs defense is up front, particularly when it a position to pin back its ears and attack the pocket while playing with a lead, the group is not without its weaknesses.“A player we expect the Patriots to attack frequently is undrafted rookie cornerback Charvarius Ward,” said Kent when asked the Patriots and quarterback Tom Brady might opt to target on Sunday. “[Ward] went from special teams contributor through the first 14 games of the season to starter since week 16. He’ll be worth keeping an eye on, but for reasons that could be good for the Patriots.”Overall, though, the Chiefs defense certainly poses a challenge this week not just when it comes to keeping defenders away from Brady: the unit improved against the run as of late and also solidified its secondary over the last few weeks. While still not to be confused with one of the league’s better groups it is capable of making game-changing plays particularly when put into a comfortable position by Kansas City’s offense. CINCINNATI (AP)The New England Patriots acquired linebacker Marquis Flowers from Cincinnati on Tuesday for a seventh-round draft pick next year White Ja’Whaun Bentley Jersey , getting a player that the Bengals planned to release. Flowers was a sixth-round pick out of Arizona in 2014. He had a promising rookie season, filling in after Vontaze Burfict got hurt. He also replaced starter Emmanuel Lamur for one game. Flowers suffered a shoulder injury in the final preseason game in 2015 and missed the season. He was limited to special teams last year, playing in 16 games. He was listed as Burfict’s backup on the depth chart, but Vincent Rey is expected to move into the spot while Burfict serves a five-game suspension to start the season for an egregious hit on a Chiefs player during the preseason. Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said Flowers wasn’t going to make the team in the final roster moves this weekend, which would have left Flowers free to be claimed off waivers. ”The Patriots felt he may not get to them through the waiver chances, so they traded for him,” Lewis said. —

Only up from herePhoto by Mike Lawrie/Getty ImagesWhile the G-Men fell in their first match up of the season, there are still 15 more games left to define this team. There is no where else to go but up. The Giants drafted left guard Will Hernandez in the second round of last year’s draft and he turned out to be an immediate starter up front.Hernandez was one of the stronger players on a line that was playing much better at the end of the year than the start and the Giants made moves this offseason designed to build on that improvement. One of those moves was trading for Kevin Zeitler, who has been installed as their starting right guard.Zeitler should be an upgrade over what the Giants had last season Youth Eli Manning Jerseys , but his role in making the line better extends beyond his spot on the field. Hernandez cited Zeitler’s instruction as something that’s made him better heading into his second season.“He’s been phenomenal, not only as a player but as a teacher, too,” Hernandez said, via the team’s website. “He’s taught a lot of young guys Eli Manning Jerseys Stitched , including myself, a lot of technique. He was one of the top pass protectors in the league last year, so he definitely has a lot to offer and he’s passing it on to the young guys, myself also, and we’re really glad to have him.”Giants quarterback Eli Manning said recently that he believes the team’s offense can be better in 2019 than it was last year. If that’s the case Youth Odell Beckham Jerseys , improvement from Hernandez and the line as a whole is likely to play a big role.
season with milestones in his sights and without thoughts of retirement on his mind.As we noted on Saturday Color Rush Devin Singletary Jersey , Gore can move up to third place all-time in career carries and career rushing yards if he runs 137 times for 522 yards during the regular season. Taking over those spots might make for a fitting end to a stellar career, but Gore said he won’t be thinking about retirement until his body tells him that it is time to go.“I just go how I feel,” Gore said from a football camp in Miami on Saturday, via the . “If I feel I can’t do it no more, then I call it.”Gore signed a one-year deal with Buffalo and the Bills join the Dolphins, Colts and 49ers as teams that have had Gore carrying the ball out of their backfield. The 49ers were his first NFL team and Gore said he hopes to retire as a member of that team one way or another.“I’m going to be a Niner, you know, I’ve been there — that’s who drafted me, gave me the opportunity to come into this league, to be a professional ball player, and I was there 10 years Youth Devin Singletary Jersey , man,” Gore said. “That’s my home, my second home. It would be right to go back — if I have to do a one-day [contract], sign that and I’ll be a Niner for life.”Gore led the Dolphins in rushing last year and has been his team’s leading rusher in every season that he’s played a game. Should that streak continue in 2019, it’s probably a good bet that someone will give him a chance to continue the run in 2020. ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Bills rookie starter Josh Allen is gaining a mentor after Buffalo signed Derek Anderson on Tuesday. The Bills announced the move Tuesday, a day after Anderson visited the team’s facility. The 35-year-old has a 20-27 record over 12 NFL seasons, and spent the past seven serving as Cam Newton’s backup in Carolina.Coach Sean McDermott supported the need to add a veteran presence to help groom Allen in discussing the possibility of the Bills signing Anderson a day earlier.“He’s got some good wisdom stored up in that brain,” McDermott said.“He’s got a good outlook on the game from an offensive standpoint and understands defenses,” he added. “So there’s a lot of value to it from where we are right now in terms of that quarterback room.”Allen welcomed the idea of the Bills signing Anderson when the possibility was first broached following a 13-12 win over Tennessee on Sunday.“I’m not going to turn any help away, for sure Womens Devin Singletary Jersey ,” the rookie first-round pick said. “I know there’s a lot of things for me to improve and grow on, and that comes with repetition and that comes with an extra set of eyes maybe sometimes, too.”The move comes with the Bills off to a 2-3 start and preparing for a game at Houston (2-3) on Sunday.Buffalo has lacked veteran depth at quarterback since trading fifth-year player AJ McCarron to Oakland on Sept. 1. That left the Bills opening the season by starting second-year player Nathan Peterman, and Allen serving as the backup.Allen’s time on the sideline didn’t last long. The Bills had no choice but to speed up Allen’s developmental timetable by naming him the starter after Peterman faltered miserably in a season-opening 47-3 loss at Baltimore.Allen has a 2-2 record, and enjoyed his first game-winning drive by setting up Stephen Hauschka’s 46-yard field goal as time expired against Tennessee. The 22-year-old, however, is far from a finished product, and overseeing a sputtering offense that has yet to top 300 yards this season.Allen had 82 yards passing against Tennessee, which were the fewest in a win by a Bills quarterback who played the entire game since Drew Bledsoe had 81 yards in a 38-14 victory over Arizona on Oct. 31, 2004.Overall, he has gone 65 of 122 for 748 yards with two touchdowns passing Authentic Devin Singletary Jersey , a team-best three rushing, along with five interceptions and a lost fumble. Allen has also been sacked 19 times. The Bills are very familiar with Anderson.McDermott and general manager Brandon Beane both worked in Carolina before being hired by the Bills last year.First-year offensive coordinator Brian Daboll held the same job in Cleveland in 2009, when Anderson went 3-4 upon replacing Brady Quinn as the starter three weeks into the season.Anderson went 2-2 in four starts with Carolina, and had three brief appearances in a backup role last year. His best season was 2007 in Cleveland, when he went 10-5 and had 3,787 yards passing with 29 touchdowns and 19 interceptions to earn his only Pro Bowl selection. To make room for Allen, Buffalo released safety Dean Marlowe. Buffalo also shuffled its practice squad roster by signing tight end Keith Towbridge and releasing cornerback Michael Hunter.
of the Buffalo Bills Vosean Joseph NFL Draft , we get one more go-around with weekly snap counts. Let’s take a look at who contributed in the squishing of the fish. And not to hype it too much, but we have a fun factoid to take with you after such a momentous game. Data courtesy of Pro Football Reference. Offense (62 snaps)Josh Allen was a member of the 100% club, which means he exited healthy. Three linemen also hit that mark; Ryan Groy, Wyatt Teller and Dion Dawkins. Ike Boettger and John Miller split guard reps right down the middle. Jordan Mills was replaced by Conor McDermott after being ejected for his part in the skirmish started by Kiko Alonso. Zay Jones nearly missed the 100% club, as did Robert Foster. With the high rate of snaps for both, it’s a safe bet they’re viewed as part of the foundation moving forward. For receivers, after those two there’s a huge cliff, with Isaiah McKenzie the third-highest in playing time with 21%. Ray-Ray McCloud III, Da’Mari Scott and Victor Bolden Jr. came into the game for a few plays. Charles Clay was active this week but still didn’t surpass the playing time of Jason Croom, though it was pretty close with Croom edging out Clay 30 snaps to 29. Logan Thomas is still playing third fiddle. The highest number of snaps to a back went to...PATRICK DIMARCO? Really? DiMarco has been used sparingly, averaging about 15% of playing time this year. The jump to 58% is glaring, as a result. LeSean McCoy and Chris Ivory saw equal time at 50% each. This could become an intriguing position group to watch during the off-season. The big news, of course, is Kyle Williams getting two snaps on offense at the fullback position. He helped Josh Allen into the end zone on his first play, and caught a nine-yard pass on his second. Kyle Williams now retires with a 100% catch rate and 9 yards-per-catch average to go along with his 100% touchdown rate in the run game. Williams will be known as the best dual threat fullback to play the game. Defense (61 snaps)Jordan Poyer, Micah Hyde, Levi Wallace and Tremaine Edmunds all hit 100% as expected. Rafael Bush, listed as a safety, played every down in the nickel role. Though the Bills have often run nickel heavy personnel, this is Bush’s first 100% game. Bush has seen increased time after the injury to Taron Johnson. Tre’Davious White was injured midway through the game and was replaced by Lafayette Pitts. Adding up the totals, this means the Bills played nickel defense for the entire game. Lorenzo Alexander has seen increasing time with the injury to Matt Milano and he also joins the 100% club this week. With Edmunds also at 100% and the Bills using nickel the entire game, Corey Thompson’s ten snaps mean Lorenzo Alexander saw time at defensive tackle that many times. Alexander has filled in on the line for pass rushing situations. Looking at the defensive tackle numbers, they all landed around their usual playing time. Kyle Williams was a touch below his usual mid-60s, but he did fill in on offense. Breaking down the numbers further though, they’re 12 short of the expected 122 (two spots per play at 61 snaps each). With Alexander filling in on ten Vosean Joseph NFL Jersey , that leaves two unaccounted for. Jerry Hughes and Mike Love rotated at one defensive end spot, and hit the 100% cleanly. Trent Murphy edged out Shaq Lawson for the starter role at the other end spot but the total comes out to 63 snaps, two higher than expected. Shaq Lawson has seen time at defensive tackle in the past and this is likely the explanation behind the math anomaly. Special teams (29 snaps)Since it’s the end of the season, here’s the entire list of 36 players who came in on special teams. This is why the full list usually isn’t provided. It’s kind of long. There’s not too many stories to tell even showing a list with this many names. Stephen Hauschka averages just over 25% of snaps normally but saw extra time on the field as a result of all those touchdowns. Each score brings Hauschka out for two snaps (extra point and resulting kickoff). He doesn’t usually make the list as he doesn’t break the 25% barrier, but Kyle Williams does usually see time on special teams. He’s a big reason to include the full list this week so I have the pleasure of pointing out that this means he was a three-phase player. There’s no end more fitting than letting one of the all-time greats go out and have a little fun at every opportunity. First of all, congrats to Mike Mayock for skipping all the grunt work and being awarded a general manager’s job without ever working in an NFL front office. Now that the Oakland Raiders have paired Mayock with Jon Gruden, they have successfully made what would be the greatest daily half hour of television the world has ever seen. Fortunately for us, we get to go back and play, seeing what it would be like to have Mike Mayock as an NFL GM. From 2011 to 2018, this is who Mayock mocked to the Buffalo Bills in his annual mock draft:2011 3rd overall: DT Marcell Dareus, Starts: 100, Pro Bowls: 2, All-Pro: 12012 10th overall: LB Luke Kuechly, Starts: 102, Pro Bowls: 6, All-Pro: 52013 8th overall: WR Tavon Austin, Starts: 50, Pro Bowls: 0, All-Pro: 02014 9th overall: OG Zack Martin, Starts: 78, Pro Bowls: 5, All-Pro: 52015 No Pick2016 19th overall: DE Robert Nkemdiche, Starts: 6, Pro Bowls: 0, All-Pro: 02017 10th overall: LB Reuben Foster Vosean Joseph Jersey Draft , Starts: 16, Pro Bowls: 0, All-Pro: 02018 6th overall: QB Josh Allen, Starts: 11, Pro Bowls: 0, All-Pro: 0The actual picks:2011 3rd overall: DT Marcell Dareus, Starts: 100, Pro Bowls: 2, All-Pro: 12012 10th overall: CB Stephon Gilmore, Starts: 95, Pro Bowls: 2, All-Pro: 12013 16th overall: QB E.J. Outside of quarterbacks, Dareus and Miller were the two best prospects in the 2011 NFL Draft. Mayock might not have given Dareus a ridiculous player-friendly deal and had to eat an unhealthy amount of dead money after trading him for a fifth-round pick. 2012: Luke Kuechly or Stephon Gilmore? We all know the answer to that one, despite Gilmore’s All-Pro season. Kuechly has clearly been the best linebacker in the NFL since he entered the league. He’s made six Pro-Bowls and has been voted a First-Team All-Pro five times in his seven year career. 2013: Oof. Mayock’s scenario and the actual scenario for this year are terrible. For the sake of Mayock, I’ll give the award for worst pick to the actual Bills who drafted a day-three quarterback without much talent in the first round because his hands were big. Tavon Austin hasn’t had the career a lot of people thought he would, but at least he’s still contributing to an offense on Sundays...kinda. 2014: Again, I’ll take Mayock’s pick over the blunder the Bills had. Staying at ninth overall and taking Zack Martin, who is now the best guard in the NFL and will be in that conversation for the next six to eight years gets the best of trading up to fourth overall to take Sammy Watkins and pass on Khalil Mack. Sammy Watkins was a hell of a prospect as a receiver. If he could have stayed healthy throughout his time in Buffalo (and elsewhere), this conversation could very well be going the other way. 2015: As a part of the trade-up to get Watkins, the Bills packaged their 2015 first-round pick.2016: Even though Shaq Lawson hasn’t panned out to be the player that the Bills were hoping, I’d take him over Robert Nkemdiche. Nkemdiche has had trouble converting to the NFL and in his rookie year he was called out for his lack of work ethic. His 2018 season turned to be better than his first two before he was put on injured reserve in December. Over the past three years, Lawson’s body of work is more consistent than Nkemdiche’s. 2017: Trading back for Tre White seemed like the best move up until September 16th, 2018. The Kansas City Chiefs played the Pittsburgh Steelers and Mahomes completed over 80% of his passes, threw for 326 yards and six touchdowns—on the road. Mahomes took the league by storm and will likely win the MVP award for his 2018 season. Of course, Mahomes wouldn't be in the same situation in Buffalo that he is currently finds in Kansas City, but letting the Chiefs trade into their draft spot to take him looks like a miss. Tre White is a good corner and will continue to be one, but it’s hard not to sit back and think of what might have been. 2018: Mayock had the Bills packaging the 12th and 22nd pick to move up to 6th to grab Josh Allen. Luckily for the Bills, they were able to salvage their 22nd overall pick in the process, which eventually allowed them to move up again to 16 and grab Tremaine Edmunds. The 22nd pick originally belonged to Kansas City before the Bills acquired the pick in the 2017 deal for the 10th overall pick, which resulted in Patrick Mahomes joining the Chiefs.
Bowl is almost upon us. The New York Giants draft slot has been set for some time Deandre Baker NFL Draft , but we still don’t quite know the full draft order — and won’t for a few more days. We have been keeping track of all the multitude of mock drafts around the interwebs as we get deeper into Draft Season. But now is a pretty good time to run through a mock draft of our own. In my first two mock drafts I simulated trades, but I’m not going to do that this time around. Let’s be clear: Trades are going to happen on draft night. We have seen it repeatedly over the last few years, and it is basically certainty that teams will be moving around in the first round, and there are at least two picks in the top five which are for sale. I do not expect the Arizona Cardinals and New York Jets to be the teams picking at first and third overall, respectively. Those two teams have new coaches and rosters in desperate need of young talent, particularly after executing trades to acquire Josh Rosen and Sam Darnold. As I did in my second mock draft, I will be going through the entire first round, and down to the sixth pick in the second round. I would go further, but considering the Giants have already made their third-round pick (Sam Beal), there isn’t much of a point to that right now. Finally, I will explain my picks at the end, after going through the mock draft. On to the mock! Arizona Cardinals - Nick Bosa (EDGE, Ohio State)San Francisco 49ers - Josh Allen (EDGE, Kentucky)New York Jets - Quinnen Williams (iDL, Alabama) Oakland Raiders - Dwayne Haskins (QB, Ohio State)Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Cody Ford (OT, Oklahoma) New York Giants - Jachai Polite (EDGE, Florida)Jacksonville Jaguars - Daniel Jones (QB, Duke)Detroit Lions - Ed Oliver (DL, Houston)Buffalo Bills - D.K. Metcalf (WR, Mississippi)Denver Broncos - Drew Lock (QB, Missouri)Cincinnati Bengals - Devin White (LB, LSU)Green Bay Packers - Brian Burns (EDGE, FSU)Miami Dolphins - Clellen Farrell (EDGE, Clemson)Atlanta Falcons - Jeffery Simmons (iDL, Mississippi State)Washington Redskins - Kyler Murray (QB, Oklahoma)Carolina Panthers - Garrett Bradbury (C, North Carolina State)Cleveland Browns - Kelvin Harmon (WR Deandre Baker Buffalo Bills Jersey , North Carolina State)Minnesota Vikings - Chris Lindstrom (OL, Boston College)Tennessee Titans - Noah Fant (TE, Iowa)Pittsburgh Steelers - Greedy Williams (CB, LSU)Seattle Seahawks - David Edwards (OT, Wisconsin)Baltimore Ravens - Montez Sweat (EDGE, Mississippi State)Houston Texans - Yodny Cajuste (OT, West Virginia)Oakland Raiders (via Chicago Bears) - Rashan Gary (DL, Michigan)Philadelphia Eagles - DeAndre Baker (CB, Georgia)Indianapolis Colts - N’Keal Harry (WR, Arizona State)Oakland Raiders (via Dallas Cowboys) - Mack Wilson (ILB, Alabama)Los Angeles Chargers - Christian Wilkins (iDL, Clemson)Kansas City Chiefs - Byron Murphy (CB, Washington)Green Bay Packers (via New Orleans Saints) - Nasir Adderly (S, Delaware)New England Patriots - J.J. Arcega-Whiteside (WR, Stanford)Los Angeles Rams - Amani Oruwariye (CB, Penn State)Round 2 33. Arizona Cardinals - Deebo Samuel (WR, South Carolina) 34. Indianapolis Colts (via Jets) - Rock Ya-Sin (CB, Temple)35. Oakland Raiders - Deionte Thompson (S, Alabama) 36. San Francisco 49ers - Hakeem Butler (WR, Iowa State)37. New York Giants - Chauncey Gardner-Johnson (S, Florida)Giants picks explainedOkay, so far I kept a couple cards close to my (figurative) vest. When I made the Giants’ picks, I was operating on the assumption that they will address the offensive line before the draft. I stand by my supposition that Daryl Williams will be a (perhaps the) primary target in free agency. But whether it is Williams or another lineman, the Giants have to find an upgrade for right tackle. They also need to think very seriously about upgrading center and right guard as well (interestingly, both Brett Jones and D.J. Fluker are currently set to be free agents as well). So with that out there ... This mock did not work out to be ideal for me. Putting myself in the role of Dave Gettleman, I wasn’t going to even consider Kyler Murray at sixth overall (maybe have him as a sixth-round slot receiver). As I said above, I would be stunned if there aren’t trades in the top five picks, and even if a team doesn’t trade up for him Infant Daniel Jones Jersey , I don’t think it is insane that the Raiders draft him. Haskins is a solid fit for Gruden’s offense, and Mike Mayock said at the Senior Bowl that when he addressed the Raiders’ front office, that this might be the most important draft in the franchise’s history. To me, that says that the most important position is definitely on the table, particularly when their expensive starter just got into a very public spat with an ESPN talking head, after a disappointing season. The Giants could, theoretically, trade up for Haskins, but it would be difficult and expensive. If they do so, it will mean trading their second round pick as well as their 2020 first and second round picks, at the very least. Last year the Jets made the same trade, moving from sixth up to third, and it cost them three second round picks. Since, generally speaking, future picks are discounted by a round, the Giants’ future picks would be valued at a second and third. With Haskins off the board, I decided to address the defense, which I do believe will (and should) dominate the Giants’ draft.Round 1 - Jachai Polite (EDGE, Florida)The most pressing issue for the defense is their (in)ability to convert QB pressures into sacks, and I decided to attack that problem on two fronts, with the first being the pass rush itself. The Giants were near the top of the league in terms of total QB pressures, but were one of the worst teams in the league in terms of actually converting that pressure into box score production. A big part of that will be upgrading their coverage so James Bettcher can call the kind of defense he really wants to, but another part will be getting a player with the speed to truly scare offenses and run past tackles. Polite’s ability to explode off the line of scrimmage and bend around the edge is reminiscent of 2010-2011 vintage Osi Umenyiora, as are his 11 sacks, 19.5 tackles for a loss, and 6 sacks this past season. Polite might have the highest ceiling as a pass rusher of any prospect in the draft, and it’s about time the Giants had another true menace off the edge. Right now this looks like a slight reach, but if Polite’s combine performance matches up (or exceeds) his tape Daniel Jones Jersey Draft , we very well could hear his name called in the first ten picks. Polite might not be a common name up there yet, but he might be the best pure pass rusher in the entire draft while still being a competent run defender. He is sudden, explosive, physical, tenacious, and has enough savvy and polish to produce immediately, while still having upside to get better with coaching and development. Round 2 - Chauncey Gardner-Johnson (S, Florida) Yeah, I passed on a QB again. But at this point I would rather pick a lottery ticket in Round 4 with a player like Jordan Ta’amu or Brett Rypien to compete with (or replace) Kyle Lauletta. The Giants’ need at free safety is glaring to say the least. It is difficult to understate how important a good free safety is to a man-coverage, blitz-heavy defense. Making matters more difficult, the Giants clearly want a player at free safety who also has the skill-set to play slot corner and help with disguises and match-ups. Gardner-Johnson hasn’t gotten much press yet, but his stock could rise with the Scouting Combine and as people go back to the tape. He looks like a very good athlete on the field who has improved in most aspects of his game in his time in Florida. He also has the ability to play man coverage in the slot, which the Giants seem to covet so highly. It is possible that he Giants try to find a free safety in free agency, in which case, this pick would probably be Iowa tight end T.J. Hockenson. I do believe that cutting Rhett Ellison is well within the realm of possibility, and Hockenson not only presents an athletic upgrade over Ellison, he is an excellent blocker and a great pairing with Evan Engram. The New York Giants announced a series of roster moves on Tuesday. As had been previously reported, the Giants confirmed adding undrafted free agent cornerback Grant Haley to the roster and waiving cornerback Donte Deayon. The moves did not, however, stop there. The Giants placed wide receiver Cody Latimer (hamstring) and linebacker Ray-Ray Armstrong (concussion) on injured reserve. They added free agent wide receiver Bennie Fowler, a fifth-year player who caught 29 passes for the Denver Broncos last season, and promoted linebacker Ukeme Ilegwe from the practice squad.Rookie defensive end R.J. McIntosh, the team’s fifth-round pick, remains on the non-football illness list but is finally eligible to practice. The Giants return to practice Tuesday as they prepare for a Monday night game against the Atlanta Falcons. We will see if McIntosh practices. The Giants also added wide receiver/kick returner Kalif Raymond, defensive end Myles Humphrey and defensive back Ronald Zamort to their practice squad.
Thursday night game against the New York Giants and one of the players to exit the contest was tight end Matt LaCosse; he injured his knee in the first quarter and played just 15 total offensive snaps because of the ailment — one that is expected to keep him out for some time now: according to NFL Network’s Mike Giardi http://www.patriotslockerroom.com/authentic-mike-gillislee-jersey , LaCosse sprained his MCL against the Giants. The injury will reportedly force the tight end to miss “a few weeks,” which means that the Patriots’ tight end depth will get tested once again. Second-year man Ryan Izzo, who played 80 of a possible 82 snaps on Thursday, will likely see an increased workload while newly re-signed Benjamin Watson also factors into the mix. Until LaCosse returns, the two will run the show at a position that has played a comparatively limited role so far this season.LaCosse, meanwhile, suffers another setback. The Patriots originally signed the 27-year-old as a free agent in March, but he sprained his ankle in the preseason opener which forced him to miss the remainder of the exhibition schedule and Week 1 of the regular season. He did return for the following game but remained limited until playing 94% of New England’s offensive snaps in Week 5 against the Washington Redskins. Read more: Experts grade the Patriots’ day two draft picks, and other league reactions"The second day of the 2019 NFL draft is in the books and it saw the New England Patriots make a flurry of moves to ultimately come away with four players: cornerback Joejuan Williams, defensive edge Chase Winovich James Develin Jersey , running back Damien Harris, and offensive tackle Yodny Cajuste will all wear the Patriots’ uniform next year. Let’s find out how their additions impact the men already on New England’s roster.Winner: The entire tight end depth chartHeading into the draft and after the retirement of Rob Gronkowski, tight end was seen as the Patriots’ top need. Two days into the event, however, the club has yet to address the position. While this could very well change today, the second day was a good one for the players currently under contract in New England: Matt LaCosse, Jacob Hollister, Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Ryan Izzo and Stephen Anderson did not see a highly drafted challenger enter the ring.Losers: CB J.C. Jackson & SS Obi MelifonwuBy drafting Joejuan Williams, the Patriots added a tall and physical defensive back that could basically fill the roles held by J.C. Jackson and Obi Melifonwu in 2018. Jackson Womens LaAdrian Waddle Jersey , who had an outstanding rookie campaign, played primarily as a press-man corner on the boundary — just like Williams did at Vanderbilt. Melifonwu, meanwhile, was brought on to help against tight ends but never really established himself in that role. Seeing the second-round rookie take his job only seems like a formality at this point.Winners: QB Brian Hoyer & QB Danny EtlingGiven Tom Brady’s advanced age, New England always appears to be in the market for quarterbacks — which by extension is bad news for his backups. So far, however, the Patriots opted against investing in a passer despite being in a position to grab highly-rated prospects Drew Lock and Will Grier. If the Patriots add another quarterback this draft, he will probably not be a roster lock given his draft status.Loser: RB Brandon BoldenWhile Brandon Bolden is primarily a special teamer, one has to wonder how the addition of Damien Harris impacts his standing on the team: Harris has experience playing in the kicking game and offers way more upside as a ball carrier. Bolden knows the Patriots’ system and has leadership skills on his side as well, but those can only get you so far. And even though veteran will likely not lose his roster spot because of Harris http://www.patriotslockerroom.com/authentic-malcolm-mitchell-jersey , it has become a little less secure due to his addition.Loser: DE Derek RiversAs things stand right now, the Patriots have four roster locks among their defensive edge group: Michael Bennett, Deatrich Wise Jr, John Simon and third-round pick Chase Winovich will — barring injury — all be on the opening day 53. This means that the rest of the group will likely have to enter a fight for its collective roster life, with Derek Rivers as the biggest name among the competitors. Two years removed from a season-ending ACL tear, the former third-round draft pick needs to finally live up to the potential he showed early in 2017 to make the team.Winner: RB Sony MichelThe Patriots asked a lot of first-round pick Sony Michel during his 2018 rookie season — and he delivered for the most part. One problem, however, was that the team lacked any viable depth alongside him following the season-ending injury to Jeremy Hill: at times, wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson had to serve as the starting running back. With Damien Harris now on board, New England has said depth option available and moving forward will be able to lift some pressure off the Michel’s shoulders.Loser: OT Cole CrostonYodny Cajuste is a developmental Dwayne Allen Jersey , high-upside project at this point in his career, but he should immediately be considered the front-runner to earn the swing tackle backup job previously held by free agency departure LaAdrian Waddle. This also means that Cajuste, unless the quad injury that kept him out of the combine turns out to be a bigger issue than anticipated or he fails to properly adjust to life in the NFL, will likely push current number three tackle Cole Croston down the depth chart and possibly off the team.Winners: WR Braxton Berrios & WR Bruce EllingtonNew England addressed its need at wide receiver when it drafted N’Keal Harry in the first round, but still remained in the market for more depth at the position. The club did not invest in a pass catcher on day two of the draft, however, which is especially good news for Braxton Berrios and Bruce Ellington — two players who are projected to be on the roster bubble: the Patriots did not yet add an interior/slot option through the draft despite being in a position to pick UMass’ Andy Isabella in round two.

Jake Browning was one of 10 undrafted rookies signed by the Vikings after the draft wrapped up on Saturday. He joins Kirk Cousins Ben Gedeon Jersey , Kyle Sloter and Sean Mannion on the depth chart in Minnesota.Browning was a four-year starter at the University of Washington and wrapped up his career with 12,296 passing yards while completing 64.6 percent of his passes. He threw 94 touchdowns and 34 interceptions while also running for 17 touchdowns during his run with the Huskies. The Vikings also signed Miami defensive tackle Tito Odenigbo, who will join his brother Ifeadi in drills once the rookies join the rest of the team. The team has also invited UAB defensive back Mar’Sean Diggs to their rookie minicamp on a tryout basis. He’s the younger brother of wide receiver Stefon Diggs. The other eight undrafted additions are Tennessee safety Micah Abernathy, Vanderbilt fullback Khari Blasingame, Sam Houston State wide receiver Davion Davis, Marian tight end Brandon Dillon, Georgia Tech defensive end Anree Saint-Amour, UCLA cornerback Nate Meadors, Eastern Illinois wide receiver Alexander Hollins and Western Michigan center John Keenoy. EAGAN http://www.thevikingslockerroom.com/authentic-mackensie-alexander-jersey , Minn. — With a roster built for the Super Bowl, the Minnesota Vikings were in no position to practice patience with a struggling kicker.Rather than hoping Daniel Carlson could refocus after missing all three of his field goal attempts in the tie game at Green Bay, the Vikings waived the rookie on Monday and punted on the fifth-round draft pick they used on him five months ago.More Vikings coverageVikings’ Kearse faces gun, drunken driving charges after arrestVikings’ Kearse apologizes, returns to work after weekend arrestPhotos of the Week: 10/20/19 – 10/26/19Vikings surge into second half thanks to Cousins, CookVikings Snap Counts: Penalties spoil Mattison’s big dayTwo of Carlson’s misses came in overtime on Sunday, forcing the Vikings to settle for a 29-29 draw with the rival Packers. When asked by a reporter how the decision was reached, coach Mike Zimmer said, “Did you see the game?”Carlson missed from 48 yards in the second quarter and 49 yards in the extra period Womens Adam Thielen Jersey , before his 35-yard try on the game’s final play also went wide right.“Yeah, it was pretty easy,” Zimmer said. The Vikings didn’t immediately add a replacement for Carlson, but Zimmer confirmed that free agent Dan Bailey was making his way to Minnesota for a physical exam. That made it all but certain the Vikings will sign Bailey, the second-most accurate field goal kicker in NFL history. The 30-year-old was released by the Dallas Cowboys right before the regular season began in a cost-saving move following his injury-influenced regression in 2017.Bailey hurt his groin in the sixth game of the season at San Francisco and missed the next four weeks. Upon his return, he missed five of 13 field goal attempts and also had the first two failed extra points of his seven-year NFL career. With a field goal rate greater than 88 percent, Bailey is behind only Baltimore’s Justin Tucker for the best percentage in league history.Carlson was awarded the job when the Vikings let Kai Forbath go on Aug. 20, and Carlson pulled two field-goal tries wide left in an exhibition game four days later. In the season opener against the 49ers on Sept. 9, Carlson converted his only field goal attempt Mike Remmers Jersey , from 48 yards, plus three extra points. Then came the debacle at Lambeau Field , after which Carlson acknowledged he’d lost some faith in his ability upon lining up for his last try.7<button class="view-gallery">View Gallery</button> Gallery:Upon Further Review: Vikings at PackersAP | AP“It’s disappointing for me personally. The team fought so hard. We expect to win that, and I expect to make those kicks to win the game for the team,” Carlson said. “That last one was probably more just confidence after missing twice early. That is frustrating. That shorter one I should never miss like that.”Since Zimmer took the job in 2014, the Vikings have had plenty of these problems. Blair Walsh never fully recovered from his 27-yard miss in the subzero cold of the playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks after the 2015 season.Walsh was let go midway through the 2016 season in favor of Forbath, whose biggest trouble was extra points. Forbath performed relatively well in 2017 as the Vikings advanced to the NFC championship game, but general manager Rick Spielman sought an upgrade with Carlson, who left Auburn as the all-time leading scorer in Southeastern Conference history.Carlson sent 9 of 10 kickoffs for touchbacks http://www.thevikingslockerroom.com/authentic-marcus-sherels-jersey , and the other one was a squib returned for 8 yards to Green Bay’s 31. But all the leg strength in the world won’t make up for any setbacks on the mental side of this pressure-packed job.“That’s life. I don’t know. It’s hard to figure out,” Zimmer said. “You think you’ve got a guy for a while, and then he goes out and misses three in a big game. But things happen I guess.”The Vikings traded two sixth-round picks to the New York Jets for the opportunity to move up in the fifth round for Carlson.“That’s water off a duck’s back,” Zimmer said. “We’ll get some more sixth-rounders next year. I’m not worried about that.”The Vikings signed wide receiver Aldrick Robinson, a seventh-year veteran who was most recently with San Francisco and played with quarterback Kirk Cousins in Washington in 2012 and 2013.“He really liked him. He’s a fast guy,” Zimmer said.
A pick Womens Justin McCray Jersey , a beneficial penalty and a game-winning kick.Quite a final minute for the Green Bay Packers.Mason Crosby kicked a 27-yard field goal as time expired to cap an 81-yard drive set up by Kevin King's interception with 1:07 left, and the Packers outlasted the San Francisco 49ers for a 33-30 win on Monday night. The final drive was extended after 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman was flagged for illegal contact on third-and-15 that wiped out a sack of Aaron Rodgers with 43 seconds left.Rodgers rushed up the middle for a 21-yard gain on the next play. The two-time NFL MVP completed two more passes for 19 yards to set up Crosby's game-winner for Green Bay (3-2-1).The veteran kicker was perfect a week after missing four field goals in a loss at Detroit."It's very appropriate, what he went through last week, (for) the team to stick with him," Rodgers said. "And then he responded."Rodgers threw for 425 yards and two scores, both to Adams. The second came with 1:55 left from 16 yards to tie the score at 30.C.J. Beathard passed for 245 yards and two long touchdowns to speedy receiver Marquise Goodwin for the 49ers (1-5).For a while it looked like the 49ers might hold on for their first victory since quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was lost for the year in Week 3 with a torn ACL.Turnovers hurt them again 鈥?three more on Monday night, but none bigger than King's pick at the Packers 10."Very disappointed. This time Lane Taylor Jersey White , King kept up and pulled in a ball that looked slightly underthrown by Beathard. Then Rodgers went to work, aided by the penalty on Sherman, who was covering Davante Adams.Rodgers was 25 of 46. Adams had 10 catches for 132 yards, one of three Packers receivers to go over 100 yards. The Packers scored 10 points in the final 2 minutes, capped by Crosby's fourth field goal of the night."This week was a grind, it was one of the tougher weeks of my career," Crosby said about bouncing back from his awful game last week. It's just what the Packers needed going into their bye week. The late flurry overshadowed another troubling start by the defense. The Packers had 17-7 lead when Rodgers connected with Davante Adams for a 9-yard touchdown with 1:58 left in the first quarter. Then San Francisco just brushed past Green Bay.Beathard connected with Goodwin for the 67-yard score down the middle of the field on the ensuing series. The 30-yard score came with 6:05 left in the second. Goodwin celebrated by mimicking a long jump in the end zone.He finished with four catches for 126 yards. Beathard was 16 of 23.San Francisco also got more pressure after the first quarter, forcing the Packers into more third-and-long situations.Rodgers figured out the Niners in the end."We had every opportunity to finish and win that game and we didn't get it done," Shanahan said.KEY PLAYThe 49ers looked like they were in good shape after Adams' second touchdown Tramon Williams Jersey , starting their series at their own 47 with 1:55 left after a 32-yard return by Richie James Jr., and a 15-yard unnecessary roughness penalty on Tony Brown. But on third-and-3 from the Packers 46, Beathard unloaded under pressure."It wasn't really what we wanted. The all-out blitz stuff, we had to get rid of it," Shanahan said. There (are) four options on the play, but that wasn't the one we wanted."King picked a nice time for his first career interception."I've just got to stay the course, keep doing your job, keep it going, and those types of plays are going to come Paul Hornung Jersey White ," King said.NO TAKEAWAYSAnother game without a takeaway for the Niners dropped them to an NFL-worst minus-11 in turnover differential. Training camps are beginning, which means that PUP list designations — as well as those of the Non-Football Injury and Non-Football Illness lists — must be applied this week.So far http://www.packerslockerroom.com/authentic-dave-robinson-jersey , the Green Bay Packers have two players showing up on injury lists after the rookie report date came and went on Monday. Safety Darnell Savage is on the NFI (illness) list following wisdom tooth extraction, but today’s curds discuss the second, an undrafted rookie who ended up on PUP.All of these lists have the same general set of rules. Players must be placed on those lists at the very beginning of training camp — practicing even once makes a player ineligible. Then, a player can be put on the “regular season” list after camp, but that keeps them out for six weeks of the regular season.Around the NFL, there are some big names landing on those lists as well. The Bears expect safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix to start camp on the PUP list, while Lions edge rusher Trey Flowers will likely do the same. Both of those players are expected to return in camp, but it’s a disappointing way for both of those players to start their first training camps with new teams. Here’s a look at what else is going on around Green Bay and the NFL this morning.Packers preparing for Wednesday's annual Meeting of Shareholders | Packers.comThe meeting begins promptly at 11 AM on Wednesday, with gates opening at 9. agent and hope to sign the offensive lineman to a multi-year deal before free agency begins March 13 Greedy Williams Jersey , Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com reports.Robinson’s career was left for dead after three failed seasons with the Rams and another with Detroit. But the former second overall pick found new life in Cleveland after signing a one-year, $790,000 deal. In his eight starts at left tackle, Robinson won the job for the future. “Greg did such a great job and he understood how Baker Mayfield played, how he needed his left tackle to play,’’ former Browns left tackle Joe Thomas told Cabot. “And Greg was a like a sponge https://www.brownsfanshop.com/Howard-Wilson-Jersey , the whole year learning from [former Browns offensive line coach] Bob Wylie, learning from those other guys in the room.“To be able to step in and play as well as he did is not an easy thing, especially at that position and especially for a guy that’s kind of bounced around the league a little bit and hadn’t found his role and his niche. He did an amazing job, and I can’t wait to see what he looks like next year with a full offseason of preparation.’’ The unexpectedly robust pipeline from the AAF to the NFL continues to flow.Safety Ed Reynolds will work out with the Falcons today, per a league source. This is just the first stop; other teams have interest in Reynolds.A fifth-round draft pick of the Eagles in 2014, Reynolds has spent time with Philly and Cleveland. He last played in the NFL in 2016 https://www.brownsfanshop.com/Bernie-Kosar-Jersey , and he has made the most of the second chance he secured with the Atlanta Legends of the now-defunct AAF.The resurrection of Reynolds’ career underscores the value of a spring football league to the NFL. But the NFL apparently doesn’t deem it to be valuable enough, or the NFL would have its own. After all, each team ultimately has only 53 regular-season roster spots, and for every Ed Reynolds who potentially parlays a spot in a developmental league into an NFL job, there will be a guy with an NFL job who lost it to Reynolds.
from the offense and a not-so-good performance from the defense. In the Green Bay Packers’ Sunday victory by that score https://www.thepackersfanshop.com/Mason-Crosby-Jersey , that was not completely the case.Green Bay’s defense has been decimated by injuries. They’ve been without their top two defensive linemen plus the secondary seems to be dealing with some kind of nagging injury. It’s a wonder Mike Pettine’s crew has played as well as it has.Separate comebacks from down both 14 and 15 points don’t just happen without some kind of effort by the defense. They were able to force multiple punts in the fourth quarter after giving up 35 points in the previous three. Under the old coaching regime, the defense would have folded as beat up as it was.Yet this time it was different.Yes, they got shredded by a rookie quarterback for much of the afternoon but they were able to step up and make stops when it counted. We also touch on the “galvanizing moment” narrative, discussing how Mike McCarthy’s choice to punt the ball away at the end of last week’s frustrating loss to the Seattle Seahawks felt like a willful eschewing of a potential momentum-grabbing moment.Oh yeah, and — funny enough — the Packers are still in the playoff conversation. Finally Peyton Manning Jersey , Malik Hooker feels like himself again. After two offseasons rehabbing, the Colts safety is participating in the team’s offseason program for the first time.He said he feels the best he has felt since he left Ohio State as the 15th overall pick and “probably even better than that.”“For me to finally be able to have a whole offseason to work my body, it’s been great,” Hooker said, via Joel Erickson of the .After the 2017 draft, Hooker was working his way back from postseason surgeries to repair a hernia and a torn labrum in his hip. He then spent last summer rehabbing from a torn ACL and MCL that prematurely ended his rookie season.Although he played in 14 games last season, he had a hip injury cost him two games and a foot injury that kept him out of the loss to the Chiefs in the divisional round of the postseason.“The season, you’re not dealing with bad injuries, but you’re dealing with nagging injuries that stay around all season,” Hooker said. “When it’s the season, there’s no chance to just focus on one thing Al Woods Color Rush Jersey , because the next week, you’ll have a different soreness you have to take care of.”Hooker now is fully healthy and ready to stay that way. The Denver Broncos created more than $4 million in salary cap space by cutting a trio of veterans Monday, savings that could go toward a seasoned backup quarterback or middle linebacker should they seek to plug holes on their roster. The Broncos jettisoned sixth-year defensive lineman Zach Kerr, 10th-year outside linebacker Dekoda Watson and fifth-year returner/receiver Nick Williams .Kerr was due a $1.5 million salary this season with a cap hit of just over $2 million. Watson's salary and cap hit were both $1.55 million and Williams recently signed a one-year, $805,000 contract that carried a cap hit of $645,000."Well, one thing was to give them an extra week ahead of the major cutdown to maybe, possibly hook on with another team," coach Vic Fangio said when asked about Kerr and Watson, who were released in the morning. "And we felt good about the other guys at that position."In particular https://www.coltsfanshop.com/Erik-Swoope-Jersey , Fangio pointed out the play of DeShawn Williams and Mike Purcell on the D-line.Williams, a third-year pro, was a cut casualty a year ago in Denver, then spent the season competing on the practice squads in Denver, Miami and Indianapolis before re-signing with the Broncos in May."That's why I play every day the way I play because I know every day is not promised," Williams said. "Look at Zach, and that kind of hurt walking in and seeing one of the fellow guys who has proven that he can play and he's not here. (It) just got real. ... So, I just want to make sure I play hard for Vic because he brought me in. He didn't know me from a can of paint. And I just want to do everything I can for him."The Broncos don't plan to bring in roster replacements for the players they cut because, Fangio said, "time's not favorable for that," with the preseason finale Thursday night and cuts coming Saturday.Injuries have impacted Denver's plans for the 53-man roster. Inside linebacker Todd Davis Malik Hooker Jersey , their leading tackler last season, tore a calf muscle on the first day of training camp and has yet to return to the field."No, he won't practice this week," Fangio said. "He's progressing, but not at the rate we had hoped."Davis was originally expected to miss 3 to 4 weeks when he got hurt on July 18. His replacements have been OK, but nobody has really stood out, and Josey Jewell, the other starter, also was sidelined for a while.Three offensive players expected to make the team will be sidelined to start the season: fullback Andy Janovich, receiving running back Theo Riddick and rookie QB Drew Lock.Lock was on his way to securing the backup job behind starter Joe Flacco when he sprained the thumb on his right (throwing) hand last week, and quarterbacks Kevin Hogan and rookie Brett Rypien had middling performances in a 10-6 preseason loss to the Rams last weekend.Asked if he had seen enough from Hogan or Rypien to name one of them the backup QB to start the season until Lock's return Quincy Wilson Color Rush Jersey , Fangio said he still needed to see some separation Thursday night when the Broncos face the Arizona Cardinals."That remains to be seen," Fangio said. "I've seen some good play. I've seen some not-so-good, so I don't know the answer to that just yet."Bringing in a veteran QB "is always an option," Fangio said, "but as you see out there, there's not a lot of them available."Notes: Fangio was Stanford's defensive coordinator in 2010 and got to know Andrew Luck well and he was "like everybody else, surprised" over his decision to retire after a series of injuries sapped his passion to play. "I can tell you this: he didn't do it in a harsh, quick way. I'm sure he gave it a lot of thought." ... TE Jake Butt (knee) was held out of practice Monday after his first action since tearing his left ACL last season. ... Fangio said RG Ron Leary (knee) is still trending toward being available for the season opener. ... Fangio said that he's not considering coaching from the press box, where he's spent most of his career: "No, I'm not going to do that. But it is a better view up there."Follow Arnie Melendrez Stapleton on Twitter: http://twitter.com/arniestapleton
RENTON Michael Dickson Color Rush Jersey , Wash. (AP) — For the Seattle Seahawks to have a say in the NFC playoff picture, they had to get past Green Bay. A loss would have likely proved too much to overcome with games remaining against Carolina, Minnesota and Kansas City.So Pete Carroll celebrated Thursday’s win in the way everyone would have expected. He rode Seattle’s waterfront Ferris wheel.“It’s a wonderful ride. Everyone should do it,” Carroll said Friday. The Seahawks’ 27-24 win over Green Bay snapped a two-game losing streak and created a path to where the postseason is now at least a realistic opportunity for Seattle. There are still challenges ahead, but Seattle is now in the conversation.“To be in it right now, we’re not where we want to be record-wise, but we’re fighting,” said tight end Ed Dickson, who caught the winning touchdown pass from Russell Wilson with 5:08 remaining.Seattle’s path to the postseason is relatively straightforward because of the way its schedule is structured. Five of the Seahawks’ final six games are against NFC teams. Three of those are against San Francisco Alex McGough Color Rush Jersey , twice, and Arizona, who have combined records of 4-15 going into this week. The other two NFC opponents are Carolina next week and Minnesota in Week 14, the two teams directly in front of the Seahawks in the wild-card race.So while Seattle doesn’t have complete control of its playoff fortunes, it will have a say in whether it can stay in the race into the final weeks of the regular season. And it’s why knocking off the Packers was so crucial.“Doug (Baldwin) and I were talking about going back to 2015. We were 4-5, I think it was, and we got on a hot streak,” Wilson said. “This is one game, we have a lot of games to go. We have a tough game ahead of us. Just a reminder of where we’ve been and where we’ve gone and how we’ve done it before.”That run Wilson referenced from 2015 was based largely on a passing offense that erupted in the final two months of the season. Seattle won six of its final seven games that season Byron Maxwell Color Rush Jersey , scoring 29 or more points in each victory with Wilson throwing 24 touchdown passes and one interception during the seven-game span.A passing explosion like that isn’t likely to happen this time. But something could happen on the ground as Seattle continued to show it can run the ball with any of its three running backs. The Seahawks rushed for 173 yards against the Packers, their eighth straight game running for at least 100 yards as a team and the seventh straight game topping 150 yards. Last week against the Rams, Seattle used a healthy dose of Wilson’s legs when he rushed for a season-high 92 yards to complement the first 100-yard game of Rashaad Penny’s rookie season.Against the Packers, it was a combo of Penny, Chris Carson and Mike Davis as the closer. Carson had 83 yards on 17 carries; Penny had 46 yards, including a highlight 30-yard run in the first half; and Davis had just one carry until Seattle’s final drive when he had three carries for 16 yards as Seattle picked up two first downs to close out the game.“It might frustrate some people like we can’t make up our mind but I feel really comfortable with how we’re doing this,” Carroll said. “Some games it will go in a different direction like we’ve seen, but it’s great to have that kind of flexibility. They all have characteristics and attributes that help us.”NOTES: Carroll was unclear about the status of LB K.J. Wright and his lingering knee problems. Wright couldn’t finish last week’s game against the Rams due to issues stemming from surgery he had in August. He was inactive Thursday. “We’re trying to get his knee confident to where he can get back and stay back. We’re going to take our time, whatever time it takes to check that out Sebastian Janikowski Color Rush Jersey ,” Carroll said. … LB Mychal Kendricks will be able to rejoin the team in practice next week, but won’t be eligible to play until Week 14 against Minnesota. Kendricks was originally suspended indefinitely after pleading guilty to federal insider trading chargers, but had the suspension reduced to eight games. The Seahawks believed they were getting the best blocking tight end in the 2018 NFL Draft when they selected Will Dissly in the fourth round a season ago. What’s they’ve seen out of Dissly so far makes them believe his ceiling is far higher than just a good blocker.Dissly had a team-high seven receptions for 57 yards and a touchdown in Sunday’s 27-10 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. The touchdown was Dissly’s fourth of the season, which ties him with seven others for the most receiving touchdowns in the league through the first month of the season.“He’s a special player,” quarterback Russell Wilson said on Tuesday. “I’m hoping he continues where he’s heading because he’s going to be a star tight end for a long time in this league and hopefully with the Seattle Seahawks for a long time.”Dissly was a defensive tackle at the University of Washington until his junior season before converting to tight end. He caught just 25 passes for 336 yards and three touchdowns in his two seasons as a tight end for the Huskies. Dissly already has 27 receptions for 337 yards and six touchdowns in eight career games for Seattle. His 19 catches for 181 yards and four touchdowns this year come on the heels of a torn patella tendon that ended his rookie season after just four games.“I think last year starting off in training camp I really noticed how good Dissly really was,” Wilson said. “And then we hit the regular season and we go to Denver and he goes off and I’m like ‘man, this guy is really good.’ After I watched the film I’m like ‘man, he’s like getting open, he’s physical Dontae Johnson Color Rush Jersey , he can catch.’ Then we go to Chicago and he makes some great plays.“He’s a great teammate. He really wants to do anything to help his teammates, whether it’s blocking, catching, doing anything he does. He’s just got the right attitude about everything and I really love that about him. I really love working with him every day.”
